Rome, Italy - June 2016 - The summer session of the General Council began on 30 May and will end on 22 July.
(ANS - Florence) - Don Bosco was at home in Florence: from 1865 to 1887 he went there 23 times. A visit to the Tuscan capital was therefore a must for the one who is the successor of Don Bosco today, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime. Yesterday, 29 May, the Rector Major paid his first visit to the two Salesian centres in the city: Mary Immaculate in the city centre, and San Giusto in the suburb of Scandicci.
(ANS - Rome) - "Loving poverty is solidarity, sharing and charity and is expressed in moderation, in the quest for justice and in taking joy in the essential." So said Pope Francis in a message of 8 March 2014. The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, took that as his starting point in the talk he gave yesterday at the 87th Bi-annual Assembly of the Union of Superiors General, which ends today, Friday 27 May, at the Salesianum in Rome.
Rome, Italy – May 24th, 2016 – On May 24th Msgr. Calogero La Piana, SDB, Archbishop emeritus of Messina, presided over the feast of Mary Help of Christians in the Minor Basilica of Mary Help of Christians. Fr. Claudio Tuverio, the parish priest, and Fr. Gino Berto, rector of the Pius XI Salesian house, concelebrated. Thousands of faithful participated in the Eucharistic celebration and the traditional procession, thus witnessing to the growing Marian devotion.
(ANS – Turin) – “Great respect and prayer… and a great faith, much simple faith in all of us. Certainly Don Bosco was present with his spirit … and the MOTHER interceded for ALL before the Lord”. This is the impression remaining in the eyes and heart of the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, at the end of the traditional procession of the statue of Mary Help of Christians in the streets of Turin.
Bari, Italy - May 2016 - From 13 to 16 May the Salesian House at Redentore hosted the “Quarto Savona Quindici” the car that led the escort of Judge Giovanni Falcone, killed by the mafia with his wife and members of the escort in Capaci, 23 May 1992. This was an unusual week end for the young people and families of Libertà district of Bari. On the evening of Friday13 May the container came with the remains of the car: "No to the Mafia, Yes to life!" was the chorus with which the young of Redentore of Bari and the families of the Libertà district welcomed it. Over two days there were various events including a meeting of the schools of the city of Bari. On this occasion the Rector of the Salesian House, Fr Francesco Preite, quoted a phrase engraved on the container. "Seeing the destructive force of evil we must move to counter incidents of abuse and violence with more courage and tenacity."

RMG - St. Francis de Sales Communicator: All for Love
(ANS – Rome) - The figure of St. Francis de Sales, chosen by Don Bosco as an example of a communicator, teaches that communication is a matter of the heart. In his expression, "Everything in the Church is love: everything lives in love, for love, and of love," we understand his revolution in the way of communicating, and how communication becomes fruitful when it allows communion and the exchange of one's experiences in a path of accompaniment and collaboration in God's project.

WHAT A GIFT TIME IS!
THE MESSAGE OF THE VICAR OF THE RECTOR MAJOR,
Fr Stefano Martoglio, SDBThe beginning of the new year is illuminated in our liturgy by the ancient formula with which the Israelite priests blessed the people: "May the Lord bless you, and keep you. May the Lord show His face to you, and have mercy on you. May the Lord turn His countenance to you, and give you peace."
