Bari, Italy - April 2016 - On April 16th a new multimedia room was inaugurated at the Salesian Oratory of the Redeemer in the Libertà area of Bari in the presence of civil and religious authorities, and personalities from the sports world. It includes a cinema and a multipurpose room, and was made possible thanks to the "APS MARCOBALENO, the friends of Marco and Fabrizio Partipilo". With over two hundred square metres and a capacity of about 70 seats the new space will allow for educational programmes on cinema and also space for young people to run dance and music workshops. Every day the Salesian Oratory of the Redeemer of Bari, directed by Fr Francesco Preite, SDB, welcomes hundreds of young people from the Libertà neighbourhood who see the Oratory as an educational space for growth and joy.
Isole delle Femmine, Italy - April 2016 – The Second National Meeting of the Association of Salesian Cooperators (ASC) took place from 15 to 17 April, on the theme "With Jesus, in the Church, for the world." The meeting which takes place every two years elaborated on the documents of the conference in Florence and on the 2016 Strenna of the Rector Major. The more than 400 participants discussed the concrete experiences of the Salesian Cooperators, shared the situation in their own centre and their experience of faith. Archbishop Corrado Lorefice of Palermo and Archbishop Michele Pennisi of Monreale were also present, the latter presiding over the concluding Eucharist.
(ANS - Turin) - A new president and new perspectives in the field of international adoption for the Friends of Don Bosco. The organization is based at Valdocco in Turin, with a second house in Lecce. It is part of the great Salesian galaxy, and is active with projects on behalf of children with international adoptions in five countries: India, the Philippines, Colombia, Mongolia and Benin.
(ANS - Ciampino) - The school diary is not a simple technical instrument for taking notes: it is the faithful companion of every student throughout a journey of 10 months and often becomes the confidante of secret thoughts. For the school year 2016-2017 various Salesian groups have come together to produce a "missionary" diary, which aims to inspire in pupils a concern for their peers in the southern hemisphere.
Venice, Italy - April 2016 - On 10 April more than 12,000 people took part in the traditional Solidarity Walk "Up and Down the Bridges", through the streets and squares of Venice, on behalf of the Salesian mission in Damascus, Syria, which is at the centre of the humanitarian project for the year 2016. This great day of celebration and solidarity was started by the Salesian Fr Dino Berti and organized by the Salesian TGS Eurogroup in collaboration with the Municipality of Venice and is promoted by the Salesian Province of San Marco in North Eastern Italy.
Santeramo in Colle, Italy - April 2016 - The final day of the sports festival of the Salesian oratories in the Puglia region took place on 3 April, the Feast of Divine Mercy. The event was attended by over 500 young people from various Salesian centres in the region, and by many sports leaders and many families.
