(ANS - Rome) - On 3 October 2013, a boat carrying more than 500 people sank in the Mediterranean Sea a few miles from Lampedusa. The dead numbered 366 and about 20 were missing. These were people who had hoped to find a better life beyond the sea. And that was not the last of the disasters: in the first nine months of 2016 there were more than 3000 migrants lost at sea. Today Italy is celebrating the first National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Immigration.

(ANS - Turin) – On 28 September the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, visited the Salesian community of the UPS at Crocetta in Turin as part of his visit to the Salesian places with the Provincials who are in the middle of their mandate. "For me it is a priority to visit a formation community. I hope to return soon," he said.

Mornese, Italy – 27 September 2016 - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, accompanied by his Vicar, Fr Francesco Cereda, and the Provincials who had come for the meeting halfway through their mandate, spent a whole day in Mornese. Led by Sister Piera Ruffinato, FMA, they reflected on the historical and spiritual journey of Maria Domenica Mazzarello, retracing all the important steps that formed her from a human and religious aspect. The visit ended in the place where the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help began on 5 August 1872.

(ANS - Turin) – Yesterday, in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, launched a strong appeal for a renewal of the missionary spirit in the style of Don Bosco. He was speaking to the 46 members of the 147th Salesian Missionary Expedition: "We are heirs of a tradition in our Salesian Family that is more than century old,” he said. “Be courageous heralds of the boundless mercy and generosity of God especially among the poor and needy."

(ANS - Castelnuovo Don Bosco) – As part of their Missionary Orientation Course the members of the 147th Salesian Missionary Expedition have moved to Piedmont for the third core element of their formation. This is the charismatic element which includes a visit to Salesian sites.

  • RMG - St. Francis de Sales Communicator: All for Love

(ANS – Rome) - The figure of St. Francis de Sales, chosen by Don Bosco as an example of a communicator, teaches that communication is a matter of the heart. In his expression, "Everything in the Church is love: everything lives in love, for love, and of love," we understand his revolution in the way of communicating, and how communication becomes fruitful when it allows communion and the exchange of one's experiences in a path of accompaniment and collaboration in God's project.

MESSAGES OF THE RECTOR MAJOR

  • WHAT A GIFT TIME IS!

THE MESSAGE OF THE VICAR OF THE RECTOR MAJOR,
    Fr Stefano Martoglio, SDB

The beginning of the new year is illuminated in our liturgy by the ancient formula with which the Israelite priests blessed the people: "May the Lord bless you, and keep you. May the Lord show His face to you, and have mercy on you. May the Lord turn His countenance to you, and give you peace."
