Amatrice, Italy - October 4, 2016 - Visit of Pope Francis to Amatrice, a town devastated by the earthquake of 24 August last.
(ANS - Rome) - On 3 October 2013, a boat carrying more than 500 people sank in the Mediterranean Sea a few miles from Lampedusa. The dead numbered 366 and about 20 were missing. These were people who had hoped to find a better life beyond the sea. And that was not the last of the disasters: in the first nine months of 2016 there were more than 3000 migrants lost at sea. Today Italy is celebrating the first National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Immigration.
(ANS - Turin) – On 28 September the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, visited the Salesian community of the UPS at Crocetta in Turin as part of his visit to the Salesian places with the Provincials who are in the middle of their mandate. "For me it is a priority to visit a formation community. I hope to return soon," he said.
Mornese, Italy – 27 September 2016 - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, accompanied by his Vicar, Fr Francesco Cereda, and the Provincials who had come for the meeting halfway through their mandate, spent a whole day in Mornese. Led by Sister Piera Ruffinato, FMA, they reflected on the historical and spiritual journey of Maria Domenica Mazzarello, retracing all the important steps that formed her from a human and religious aspect. The visit ended in the place where the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help began on 5 August 1872.
(ANS - Turin) – Yesterday, in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, launched a strong appeal for a renewal of the missionary spirit in the style of Don Bosco. He was speaking to the 46 members of the 147th Salesian Missionary Expedition: "We are heirs of a tradition in our Salesian Family that is more than century old,” he said. “Be courageous heralds of the boundless mercy and generosity of God especially among the poor and needy."
(ANS - Castelnuovo Don Bosco) – As part of their Missionary Orientation Course the members of the 147th Salesian Missionary Expedition have moved to Piedmont for the third core element of their formation. This is the charismatic element which includes a visit to Salesian sites.
