(ANS - Rome) - A strong link between theory and practice was the hallmark of his study; recalling the origins and at the same time showing the present day relevance of the preventive system, capable of meeting the demands and challenges of the contemporary world. These are the two fundamental pillars of the "life of study at the service of youth" of Fr Pater Braido SDB. This was the main finding of a study seminar dedicated to him at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) in Rome, on the occasion of the second anniversary of his death (11 November 2014).
Rome, Italy - November 2016 - On 12 November, the SDB and FMA participants in the Missionary Course at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS), organized by the Missions Department, visited the Generalate of the Salesians. Here they met Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, Postulator General of the Salesian Family, who gave a talk on the fruits of holiness in the Salesian Family. They then visited the central archives, the library and the office of the Procurator General. The morning ended with Mass celebrated by Fr Francesco Cereda, Vicar of the Rector Major.
(ANS - Macerata) - It took just a few hours and a lot of generosity: "what can we do for the kids who cannot go to school these days since the schools are closed as a result of the earthquake?" This question of some parents led to a whole network of initiatives. The Salesian Oratory in Macerata is the centre of it all but there are over three hundred people – parents, teachers, groups, schools and youth leaders – who combine to organize lively mornings this week when there is no school. And it is all a spontaneous voluntary response.
(ANS - Rome) - "A mark of esteem for the whole Salesian University," commented Professor Mauro Mantovani, SDB, Rector of the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome (UPS), on his recent election as President of the Conference of Rectors of the Pontifical Universities in Rome (CRUPR), which took place on 24 October. In his term, lasting three years, Fr Mantovani will be assisted by Vice-President, Professor Mary Melone, Rector of the Antonianum Pontifical University, and the Secretary General, Professor Andrzej Wodka, President of the Alphonsian Academy.
Turin, Italy - October 2016 - On 22 and 23 October the SYM held an event in Valdocco called " the art of animating, animating art", as part of a project of the Salesians and the Agnelli Foundation. It was attended by 350 young people. The intention was to encourage young people to be active animators in the oratories. http://artedianimare.it/
(ANS - Rome) – A new service aimed at young people between 10 and 16 years was opened recently at the Salesian Don Bosco Boys’ Town (Borgo Ragazzi Don Bosco) in Rome. It is a semi-residential community, a day care facility for children in difficult conditions, who are sent by the social services of the area.
