(ANS - Rome) - A few days ago, Antonio Boccia, the World Councillor of the Association of Salesian Cooperators (ASC) of the Region of Italy-Middle East-Malta, issued an appeal to all members of the Association to organize effectively their aid to families affected by the earthquake in central Italy.
Messina, Italy - August 2016 - On 23 August, at the community of St. Thomas, the Councillor for the Mediterranean Region, Fr Stefano Martoglio, and the Provincial of Sicily, Fr Giuseppe Ruta and several Salesians gathered to celebrate the 103rd birthday of Fr Vincenzo La Mantia, now the patriarch of the Salesians in Italy.
(ANS - Rome) - The earthquake that struck central Italy did not inflict damage on any of the Salesian Houses although the shocks were heard distinctly in Rome, as well as in the houses of Macerata, Perugia, Terni, Loreto, and Civitanova. Investigations are planned for any eventual damage to the School in Macerata and the holiday houses located in Gualdo Tadino and in the mountains in Calcara di Ussita.
(ANS - Rome) - 292 have been confirmed dead, 10 are missing, over 370 injured, and 2900 are housed in tents. These are the tragic consequences of the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck at 3.36 a.m. on 24 August last and devastated central Italy, including Lazio, Umbria and the Marches. The towns of Amatrice, Accumoli, Arquata, Pescara del Tronto and surrounding villages were destroyed. The Salesians were not slow to speak up and offer their support.
A course for animators was held in Pacognano from 4 to 8 August 2016. The number of participants exceeded 200. The first day, after the presentation of the course, the young people had talks from the teachers (Sister Giuliana, Sister Flora, Fr Fabio Bellino, Fr Gianpaolo Roma, Fr Giampaolo Nicastro, Fr Cristiano Ciferri, Fr Giuseppe Liano, and Fr Piervito Pepe). (ANS-Rome) - The Salesians have expressed their deep condolences at the devastating earthquake that involved some regions of central Italy last night. "Our thoughts and prayers go to the victims and their loved ones," said Fr Giovanni D'Andrea, president of Salesians engaged in Social Work. "The mother of one of our volunteers in Rome has died in the earthquake.”
