Calcutta, India - May 2020 - On 17 May, the inauguration ceremony of the 17th Provincial of the Salesian Province of India-Calcutta (INC) was held in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin, namely Fr Joseph Pauria. The ceremony was presided over by Fr Guillermo Basañes, former General Councilor for the Missions, who said: "Fr Joseph Pauria becomes the first Provincial whose installation takes place outside his province". Fr Ivo Coelho, General Councilor for Formation, congratulated Fr Pauria and said: "You are very fortunate to be installed in the Mother House in Valdocco, after the long two-month 'retreat' of confinement". Fr Biju Michael, Councilor for the South Asia Region, said: "We look forward to great opportunities for the Salesian Missions and catechetics in our region, under the guidance of Fr Pauria in Calcutta".
Borgomanero, Italy - May 2020 - The Salesians of Borgomanero, together with the Mamre Association, have implemented several solidarity initiatives to help people in need and in difficulty due to the current health emergency. According to the slogan promoted by the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, during the Holy Week, the “Diamoci da fare” project took the form of a fundraiser to buy smocks for nurses and doctors from the Borgomanero hospital, and obtained excellent results: with the contribution obtained, in fact, 300 masks and 1,000 smocks were delivered. The initiative will end in the coming days.
Rome, Italy - May 2020 - On May 16, 1887, Don Bosco celebrated the Eucharist at the altar dedicated to Mary Help of Christians in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Rome. During the celebration he was seen crying many times, contemplating his whole life as a miracle. In memory of that memorable date, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, accompanied by Fr Carlo Zucchetti, pastor, and Fr Jean-Claude Ngoy, Director, celebrated Mass on the same altar as Don Bosco did 133 years ago.
Rome, Italy - May 1887 - On 14 May 1887 the consecration of the "Sacred Heart" took place, by the Cardinal Vicar of Rome, Mons. Lucido Maria Parrocchi, and with the presence of St John Bosco.
Rome, Italy - May 2020 - From 8 to 10 May, 150 young people from the Salesian Youth Movement (MGS) of Central Italy and just over 20 Salesians and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians participated in the online spiritual retreat led by Fr. Mario Rollando.
Turin, Italy - May 2020 - On May 2, a virtual assembly of the Salesian Youth Movement (MGS) of the Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta District took place, which was attended by 200 people including young people, Salesians and FMA. They rejoiced, prayed and shared ideas for possible activities to be carried out this next summer, a completely different summer due to Covid-19. During the assembly, it was possible to breathe the disruptive enthusiasm of the young people of the MGS in wanting to be active protagonists during this difficult period. Also during the meeting, the current Provincial, namely Fr Enrico Stasi, greeted MGS members and took the opportunity to introduce the future Provincial Fr Leonardo Mancini, warmly welcomed by all participants.

India – INS youth solemnise Don Bosco’s Feast Day with ‘Ka Sur Kynud S-3’ Grand Finale
(ANS – Shillong) – The Youth of St John Paul II, Shillong Province, celebrated the Feast Day of St. John Bosco with the Grand Finale of “Ka Sur Kynud, Season 3.” Organised by Don Bosco Media Network Television, the Social Communication Department of the Province, at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, this two-month-long singing competition, which imitates the global singing competition The Voice, concluded on 31 January 2025, coinciding with the Solemnity of St John Bosco.
