Naples, Italy - June 2020 - On Sunday 7 June, the "SYM Feast Day" of the Southern Italy Province (IME) took place on the Google Meet platform, entitled "Ri-usciamo ad incontrarci?! #Relazioniincorso." The appointment focused on this particular historical moment of "starting up again", where gradually one re-appropriated the ability to relate with others, which in the meantime has changed somewhat. Both young people and groups from all over southern Italy connected to the event to experience an afternoon of formation and exchange.

(ANS - Rome) - "We're here, with you!" This phrase has been repeated and heard many times over the past few months. As soon as the emergency began, the Salesians made themselves available to the many children and young people welcomed in the communities and centers scattered throughout Italy, guaranteeing proximity and concrete support to deal with this difficult pandemic. It was even more difficult for foster care family homes to live with this emergency: they could not be closed, as many of the boys housed had no other home to go to, while others risked returning to a family that would not have guaranteed their support.

Rome, Italy - On 2 May 1959 the Basilica of San Giovanni Bosco was solemnly consecrated by Cardinal Benedetto Aloisi Masella. The following day Pope John XXIII came to visit it. He began to pray in front of the remains of Don Bosco, which had arrived from Turin for the occasion. Behind the high altar there is the large mosaic made up of 15 million tiles, which reproduce the theme of the Glory of St John Bosco. The Basilica not only houses the large mosaic, but also an infinity of other works of art, by artists such as Marcello Avenali, Tommaso Bertolino, Lorenzo Gigotti, Emilio Notte and Baccio Bacci.

(ANS - Siena) - Anna Sansoni and Andrea Lapi are a married couple, both doctors and Salesian Cooperators active in Siena. They fought on the front in the battle against Covid-19 and now give a reading of what they experienced in the light of the Christian faith and the Salesian charism.

(ANS - Rome) - The mosaic behind the altar of the Don Bosco Temple in Rome, depicting Saint Giovanni Bosco in Glory, surrounded by saints and blesseds of the Salesian Family, after a restoration that lasted several months, was returned last Sunday, on solemnity of Pentecost, to the faithful of the Roman basilica dedicated to the Piedmontese saint. Such an event, highlighted Gianpiero Palmieri, auxiliary bishop of the East sector for the diocese of Rome, "gives new hope in such a dramatic moment."

Catania, Italy - May 2020 – In May, for two weekends, and on the initiative of the Social Communication team of the Salesian Province of Sicily (ISI), composed of Fr Enrico Frusteri Chiacchiera, Fr Philemon Chacha, Fr Antonino Garufi, and Pierpaolo Galota, it was possible to participate in a training workshop on the digital world aimed at young people. The workshop path was divided into two moments: one dedicated to photographic production, curated by Fr Garufi, held between 8, 9 and 10 May; the second, instead, was dedicated to the in-depth analysis of aspects related to journalism - on paper and online - and to communication, curated by Mr Galota, which took place over the following weekend.

  • RMG - St. Francis de Sales Communicator: All for Love

(ANS – Rome) - The figure of St. Francis de Sales, chosen by Don Bosco as an example of a communicator, teaches that communication is a matter of the heart. In his expression, "Everything in the Church is love: everything lives in love, for love, and of love," we understand his revolution in the way of communicating, and how communication becomes fruitful when it allows communion and the exchange of one's experiences in a path of accompaniment and collaboration in God's project.
