India – INS youth solemnise Don Bosco’s Feast Day with ‘Ka Sur Kynud S-3’ Grand Finale

(ANS – Shillong) – The Youth of St John Paul II, Shillong Province, celebrated the Feast Day of St. John Bosco with the Grand Finale of “Ka Sur Kynud, Season 3.” Organised by Don Bosco Media Network Television, the Social Communication Department of the Province, at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, this two-month-long singing competition, which imitates the global singing competition The Voice, concluded on 31 January 2025, coinciding with the Solemnity of St John Bosco.

The Grand Finale was witnessed by thousands of spectators, with seven contestants vying for the title of best singer. Kitkupar Nongsiej was adjudged the winner and awarded a prize of Rs. 1 Lakh, which was presented by Rev. Fr. Jeevan Lakra, Vice Provincial, and Smti. R.M. Kurbah, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, who was the Chief Guest at the grand occasion.

The event, which also marked the Feast Day of Don Bosco, was attended by a galaxy of personalities, including Smt RM Kurbah the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, Padma Shri Patricia Mukhim, Rectors and Confreres of the Shillong region, Sisters, Novices, past winners of Ka Sur Kynud, teachers, past pupils, students, and young people.

DBMNTV Youth Icon Award:
During the program, Mario Pathaw was awarded the dbmnTv Youth Icon Award for his exemplary contribution to society. It is worth mentioning that Don Bosco Media Network TV is the communication department of the Salesians in Shillong. This TV channel is available on OTT for smart TVs, YouTube, and Lelangki Cable Network (Channel 279). Each year, it recognizes a youth who becomes an icon for others through their positive activities. The award consists of a citation, a memento, and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.

Cilia Memorial Award:
Fr Babu Stephen received the Cilia Memorial Award, instituted in memory of the founder of Don Bosco Youth Centre, Fr Cilia. This initiative by the Social Communication Department aims to inspire and acknowledge a Salesian who has regularly contributed news reports to the Province website, newsletter, and YouTube Channel throughout 2024. Don Bosco Media Network of the Salesian Shillong Province felicitates and honors a Salesian with the Cilia Memorial Award every 31st of January in honor of Fr Cilia, who founded Don Bosco Youth Centre and was a writer, communicator, and inspiration to many Salesians. This year, eight nominees were considered, and Fr Babu Stephen was selected by the jury. The award consists of a memento, a plaque, and a cash prize of Rs. 30,000.

Khasi Bible App V3:
The Chief Guest, Smti. R.M. Kurbah, and Padma Shri Patricia Mukhim released version 3 of the Bible App. Don Bosco Media Network, through its various media platforms, remains committed to spreading unbiased news and information. It believes that promoting the Bible, the Word of God, is its foremost duty. Under the leadership of its Managing Director, Fr Michael Makri, and in collaboration with Sir Aibor Nongkynrih, a software and app developer, along with the support of other youth, the team developed the Bible Khasi App, now available on both Android and iOS. This marks the first complete Bible available on iOS in this part of the country.

Before starting the function, Rev. Fr. Ritonbor Kharkongor extended a warm welcome to all the guests, leaders of the Salesian society, competitors, parents, and those involved in organizing Sur Kynud Season 3. He also offered opening prayers, invoking God’s blessings.

Besides the winner Kitkupar Nongsiej, the other contestants in the Grand Finale—Baphi Lyngdoh, Baphinrihun Mukhim, Rishannylla Hujoon, Reizel Dohling, Gwyneth Mawthoh, and Nestle R. Syiemlieh—were presented with certificates and mementos.

In his speech, Vice-Provincial Rev. Fr Jeevan Lakra acknowledged the youth and the team of Don Bosco Media Network for organising the Feast Day of Don Bosco to international standards, encouraging them not to be discouraged in today’s challenging world. The Chief Guest, Smti. R.M. Kurbah, was awestruck by the program's standard. She thanked the Salesian Society, stating, “Thanks to the Salesian Society, our youth can have a future.” She recalled her own youth at Don Bosco Youth Centre and urged the youth to give their best, advising them not to succumb to the evils in society.

After the competition, speeches and various songs were performed by the previous winners of Ka Sur Kynud and the coaches of the competition. The concluding words were delivered by Fr Michael Makri, Director of Don Bosco Media Network Television and Don Bosco Youth Centre, who offered a vote of thanks to all those who had contributed to the success of the Grand Finale of Sur Kynud Season 3. The celebration concluded with the Hymn to Don Bosco sang by the Novices.
