(ANS - Rome) - The 31st World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland (26 to 31 July 2016) is getting closer. The theme is: "Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy" (Mt 5,7). Its pastoral spirit and youthful joy make it a perfect fit with the World Day of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) which will be celebrated on July 27.
Rome, Italy - July 2016 - A meeting of the Salesian Institutes of Higher Education (IUS) took place from 4 to 9 July at the Salesian Generalate. The Institutes are called upon to evaluate the progress made since the meeting in 2012 and to draw up guidelines for the next four years. There are Salesian Institutes of Higher Education in 20 countries in 5 continents. On the morning of 6 July Fr Ángel Fernández Artime presented some points for reflection.
(ANS – Rome) – The Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime SDB, will visit Belarus from 8 to 11 July. During his visit, the Rector wants first and foremost to meet and get acquainted with his Salesian Confreres from Belarus, to talk to them, hear the joys and concerns they meet in the implementation of the Salesian charism in Belarus and, of course, give some fatherly advice and support to his spiritual sons. Fr Ángel will also have an opportunity to get acquainted with the Salesian communities working in Belarus.
(ANS - Rome) - As part of the work of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, had given the title and the guidelines for the message of the Strenna 2017: "WE ARE A FAMILY! Every home, a school of Life and Love".
(ANS – Rome) – The universal Church, guided by Pope Francis, dedicated the last two Synods of Bishops to discernment of the theme of the family. In the reflection of General Chapter 27 of the Salesian Congregation (2014) it was highlighted that the family is a key factor in society and in the education of new generations. Placing itself in the furrow of the Church and the Congregation, the Dicastery for Youth Ministry is animating a progressive and propositional journey, planned in four phases. In the context of this journey, a questionnaire has also been taken into account to know the reality of the family and the relevant pastoral initiatives done in the Salesian Provinces all over the world.

Chile – Former Salesian student in the fight against Alzheimer's disease
(ANS - Santiago) - Dr Nibaldo Inestrosa, graduate of the Salesian Institute in Valdivia and national prize of Natural Sciences winner, is a pioneer and expert in the study of Alzheimer's disease in the country. In this interview, he offers an insight into the current challenges, but not before reflecting on his formative experience at the Salesian Institute in Valdivia and how this influenced his interest in biology and science.

The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

India – INS youth solemnise Don Bosco’s Feast Day with ‘Ka Sur Kynud S-3’ Grand Finale
(ANS – Shillong) – The Youth of St John Paul II, Shillong Province, celebrated the Feast Day of St. John Bosco with the Grand Finale of “Ka Sur Kynud, Season 3.” Organised by Don Bosco Media Network Television, the Social Communication Department of the Province, at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, this two-month-long singing competition, which imitates the global singing competition The Voice, concluded on 31 January 2025, coinciding with the Solemnity of St John Bosco.

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
