Rome, Italy - September 2016 - On 13 September, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major, met the new missionaries who will depart on the 147th Salesian Missionary Expedition.
(ANS - Rome) - The Orientation Course for new missionaries who will leave with the 147th Salesian Missionary Expedition began on 1 September with a pilgrimage to the places in Rome associated with St Paul. The participants are 18 in number: 13 practical trainees who are all candidates for priesthood; 2 perpetually professed Salesian Brothers and 3 Salesian priests, one of them newly ordained. Together with other missionaries of the Salesian Family, they will all receive the missionary mandate from the Rector Major on Sunday 25 September in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin.

Rome, Italy – 3 September 2016 – On the eve of her canonization a concert entitled "The joy of living", in honour of Mother Teresa of Calcutta took place in the Aula Magna at the Generalate of the Salesians. The concert was performed by an Indian musician Surojit Bhuyan, a past pupil of St Mary's School run by the FMA in Guwahati, with pieces for violin and vocal tracks. Ms Bhuyan is a well-known musician in her country. She has received several awards and collaborates with the Don Bosco Shelter, Wadala (Mumbai), with music therapy activities for street children.
Vatican City, Vatican – August 2016 – Among the twelve specialists appointed by Pope Francis to create the Commission for the Study of the Diaconate of Women, there is also Salesian confrère Fr. Aimable Musoni, S.D.B., Professor of Ecclesiology at the Salesian Pontifical University in Rome, former Consultor for the Congregation of Saints and expert at the Synod of Bishops of Africa and at the Synod of Bishops on the Family in 2015.
RMG – After over five months since the kidnapping of Fr. Uzhunnalil, we must keep praying and hoping
(ANS – Roma) – After over five months since his kidnapping, on March 4th in Aden, Yemen, the situation of the Salesian missionary Fr. Thomas Uzhunnalil is still enwrapped in uncertainty. As stated by Msgr. Paul Hinder, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, “we have no certain news. We only know that something is moving, but we have no certitude”.

India – INS youth solemnise Don Bosco’s Feast Day with ‘Ka Sur Kynud S-3’ Grand Finale
(ANS – Shillong) – The Youth of St John Paul II, Shillong Province, celebrated the Feast Day of St. John Bosco with the Grand Finale of “Ka Sur Kynud, Season 3.” Organised by Don Bosco Media Network Television, the Social Communication Department of the Province, at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, this two-month-long singing competition, which imitates the global singing competition The Voice, concluded on 31 January 2025, coinciding with the Solemnity of St John Bosco.

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
