(ANS – Rome) – On Monday, 24 June 2024, the traditional Feast of Thanksgiving for Don Bosco and his Successors at the head of the Salesian Congregation was renewed for the 154th time. The celebration came about spontaneously on 24 June 1870, the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist – considered to be the namesake feast of St John Bosco – with gestures of gratitude from the first past pupils of the Oratory at Valdocco, who wanted to show their affection to their Father, Teacher and Friend, with homages and symbolic gestures.
(ANS – New York) – The "Genius Olympiad", an international competition of excellence, was held at the Rochester Institute of Technology" in Henrietta, New York from 10 to 15 June. At the event, the "R.E.I." robot, which has been defined as "Artificial Intelligence with a heart" and was created by the Rainerum Robotics group – in honour of the Salesian institute they attended, the "Rainerum" in Bolzano – not only qualified for and entered the prestigious event, but won the bronze medal.
(ANS – Montevideo) – “What kind of world do we want to leave after us? What are we doing to look after our Common Home?” With these questions in mind, the Salesian St Joseph Province of Uruguay (URU) has reaffirmed its commitment to integral ecology; and from 6-9 June took part in the“Sustainable Uruguay Expo”, an event organised by the Ministry for the environment, offering a valuable testimony which we share as follows.
(ANS – Rome) – In the last decade social media have become islands of evangelisation where more and more initiatives are flourishing. And, at the same time, new technologies are paving the way for innovative forms of communication, helping to influence evangelisation in uncharted waters. Younger generations are naturally becoming familiar with the possibilities that digital communication offers and are increasingly becoming key players through their concrete actions.
(ANS – Guwahati) – Salesian missionaries with Don Bosco Snehalaya in Assam, India, were able to fund the “Comprehensive Support for Poor and Needy Children in Assam” project thanks to donor funding from Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The funding provided support for 142 young people in need of care and protection at five Salesian childcare institutions.
