(ANS – Quito) – The Eucharistic Theological Symposium began on the afternoon of Wednesday 4 September at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador (PUCE), in Quito. About 600 people signed up for this event, which precedes the start of the 53rd International Eucharistic Congress and whose purpose is to reflect on the intrinsic relationship between the Eucharist and Fraternity, in the context of a wounded world. Fr Juan Flores, Vice-Provincial of the Salesian Province of Ecuador, and Fr Luigi Ricchiardi participated in the opening programme.
(ANS – Locorotondo) – On 30 August 2024, 126 years after the birth of the Venerable Francesco Convertini, a Salesian missionary in Bengal, and 50 years after his last trip to Italy, the Church and civil communities of Locorotondo and Cisternino, led by Mayors Dr. Antonio Bufano and Dr. Lorenzo Perrini respectively, and by parish priests Fr Stefano Bruno and Fr Giancarlo Lacarbonara, gathered to experience the 9th Torchlight procession of Peace.
(ANS – Makululu) – Youth living at Don Bosco Makululu and students attending the Salesian primary and secondary school have access to clean water thanks to a project funded in Zambia by the Salesian Missions “Clean Water Initiative.” Salesian Missions is the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco.
(ANS – Mestre) – The start of the year 2024-25 took place at the Don Bosco Institute in Mestre on Tuesday 3 September for school teachers and formators at Vocational Training Centres in the Province of North-East Italy (INE). It involved the participation of 750 people, including about 70 new recruits, from 16 Salesian institutes in north-east Italy.
(ANS – Paris) – Another result of Salesian education on the Paris 2024 Paralympic podiums: Ewoud Vromant, a past pupils from the Don Bosco school in Ghent, Belgium, one leg amputated, participated in the Paris Paralympics in cycling competitions and has already won two silver medals, in the C2 men's time trial and in the C2 men's chase. Not to mention that next Saturday, 7 September, the men's C1-3 road race still awaits him.
(ANS – Kunkujang) – On 1 and 2 September 2024 Fr Alfred Maravilla, General Councillor for Salesian Missions, was on a mission animation visit to the Gambia. Accompanied by Fr Jesus-Benoit Badji, Superior of Our Lady of Peace Province of North West Africa (AON), Fr Maravilla met the Salesian community to share the future development plans of the young Salesian presence in the country.
