(ANS - Freetown) - On the evening of Sunday 31 January, the Rector Major met the Salesian Cooperators and the Past Pupils of Don Bosco, and spoke of his joy at the celebration of the Eucharist that morning.  Yesterday, Monday 1 February, the Rector Major went to the beach with the Confreres from Sierra Leone and held a dialogue with them.

(ANS - Rome) - "The education received in the past cannot be just a memory, but must become a force that stimulates the influence of the Past Pupils in the world, so that they can transform it and make it more human." So said the Rector Major Fr Ángel Fernández Artime to the Past Pupils of Don Bosco. "There are about 100,000 members worldwide. They are lay people who have taken on responsibly their task in the Church and in society, becoming light of the world and salt of the earth" says Fr José Pastor Ramírez, World Delegate for the Past Pupils.

(ANS – Cebu City) – Ha concluido el pasado domingo 31 de enero en Cebu City el 51° Congreso Eucarístico Internacional. En la misa de clausura, en la localidad de “South Road Properties”, el Delegado Pontificio para esta ocasión, el cardenal Charles Maung Bo, SDB, ha subrayado la importancia de la familia en la sociedad, el papel de las Filipinas como faro de evangelización para el tercer milenio y la centralidad de la Eucaristía en la vida de la Iglesia y de todos los fieles.

(ANS - Turin) - In one of the Masses celebrated yesterday morning, 31 January, at Valdocco, Fr Bruno Ferrero, SDB, recalled a poem and said: "Don Bosco is still alive. Do not tell me that Don Bosco is dead. He is on the streets, in the suburbs and schools. Wherever there is a young person, Don Bosco is there." Then, in a later Mass, Archbishop Nosiglia of Turin, spoke of Don Bosco as a deeply merciful man because he was a saint who devoted his life to saving those in need

(ANS - Freetown) - In the past few days the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, on a visit to Sierra Leone, honoured Don Bosco by meeting prisoners, rejoicing with the youth, and celebrating the Eucharist with the Salesian Family. He was repeating gestures much loved by Don Bosco, the Father and Teacher of Youth.

(ANS - Vatican City) – On Saturday 30 January, just before the Feast of Don Bosco, the Holy Father Pope Francis appointed the Salesian Fr Virgilio Do Carmo da Silva as Bishop of Dili, capital of East Timor. Fr Do Carmo da Silva is currently Superior of the Salesians of the Vice-Province of Indonesia-East Timor.
