(ANS - Rome) - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, asked the members of the Executive Council of the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS) to ensure that, with evangelical freedom, honesty and courage, the IUS may not only be high quality academic organizations but above all, places that offer training for young people and especially for the poorest.

But what is the volunteer process? What is the specific motivation of a Salesian Missionary Volunteer? Some Salesians and lay people gathered to reflect on the journey the Salesian Congregation is undertaking with the volunteer movement. It has a fundamental characteristic: it is Salesian Missionary.
Rome, Italy - April 2017 - On 4 April, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, received a visit from the delegation of Panama, which is part of the preparatory committee of the 2019 World Youth Day. Among those present were the Ambassador of Panama to the Holy See, Sig.ra Miroslava Rosas; Cardinal José Luis Lacunza, Bishop of David; Archbishop José Domingo Ulloa of Panama City; Bishop Rafael Valdivieso of Chitré and vice-president of the Panamanian Episcopal Conference; Fr Ramón Aguilar of the Archdiocese of Panama; Ms Carmen Inchausti from the Embassy; and Mr Victor Chang, executive secretary of WYD 2019.

"Wisdom and science, foresee and provide" said Don Bosco. In recent days, news has come from different parts of the world of some important results achieved by students of Salesian institutions.
(ANS - Rome) – On 27 February 2017, Pope Francis authorized the decree of Venerable of the Servant of God Octavio Ortiz Arrieta Coya, (Lima, 19 April 1878 - Chachapoyas, 1 March 1958) bishop of Chachapoyas and first Peruvian Salesian. To mark the occasion the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, wrote a letter to all Salesians and Salesian Family members, to emphasize the pastoral and spiritual value of this recognition and enhancing this rich testimony on the great tree of Salesian holiness.

India – INS youth solemnise Don Bosco’s Feast Day with ‘Ka Sur Kynud S-3’ Grand Finale
(ANS – Shillong) – The Youth of St John Paul II, Shillong Province, celebrated the Feast Day of St. John Bosco with the Grand Finale of “Ka Sur Kynud, Season 3.” Organised by Don Bosco Media Network Television, the Social Communication Department of the Province, at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, this two-month-long singing competition, which imitates the global singing competition The Voice, concluded on 31 January 2025, coinciding with the Solemnity of St John Bosco.

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
