Venice, Italy – August 2024 – The CGS Jury (Cinecircoli Giovanili Socioculturali, national association of film culture) will be at the eighty-first edition of the Venice Film Festival (from 28 August to 7 September) with 26 participants, mostly young people aged 18 and over, from the local Circoli in Alassio, Genoa, Padua, Ancona, Cagliari, Taranto and Sesto San Giovanni. They will be protagonists of a film criticism workshop, coordinated by the National Governing Council with the support of CGS Marche. For more than forty years, the Venice Cinema Laboratory has been one of the most interesting moments of the CGS national formation, precisely because of the coincidence with the most prestigious and "ancient" Film Festival in the world and the opportunity to participate in it from the privileged perspective of accredited members. For 27 years, the work of the Cinema Language Laboratory has been associated, for the participating group, with the task of Jury of the "Magic Lantern" Prize, recognized by the Film Festival among the Collateral Awards, which will be awarded by the Sociocultural Youth Cinecircles to the most significant film for issues related to youth and education. The activities will be documented on the social profiles of the National CGS Association and the reviews produced within the Laboratory will be published on the website www.sentieridicinema.it

(ANS - Colle Don Bosco) - In a deeply moving session at the Salesian Youth Synod, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, the Rector Major, engaged in an intimate and insightful dialogue with young delegates from around the world, offering wisdom and guidance rooted in his own life experiences. Six delegates, representing different regions of the world, joined Cardinal Ángel on stage, reading questions that had been thoughtfully selected in advance. The Cardinal’s responses were filled with wisdom, emphasizing the profound importance of inviting God into our lives to find true happiness.

(ANS - Colle Don Bosco) - The fifth day of the Salesian Youth Synod,  commemorating the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary began with a  profound Eucharistic celebration in the lower basilica of Colle Don Bosco, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, the Rector Major, presided over the Mass, which was concelebrated by numerous Salesians from around the world. Adding a special touch to the liturgy, participants from India sang hymns during the Mass, beautifully coinciding with India’s Independence Day.

Turin, Italy – 11 August 2024 – Presiding over the Eucharist with young men and women at the Salesian Synod of Young People, on Sunday, 11 August, Card. Ángel Fernández Artime officiated at his last Mass as Rector Major in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin. At the end of the celebration, the 10th Successor of Don Bosco also placed his signature in the register of bishops and cardinals at the sanctuary and basilica, in memory of this historic circumstance.

(ANS – Castelnuovo Don Bosco) – The second day of the Salesian Youth Synod 2024 unfolded in the serene and historically rich setting of Colle Don Bosco, the birthplace of St John Bosco and the very place where he had his life-changing dream at the age of nine. This idyllic countryside, where little John Bosco once played and worked in the fields, provided the perfect backdrop for the day’s reflections, allowing the young participants to immerse themselves in the context that shaped Don Bosco’s early life and inspired his profound vision for youth.

Turin, Italy – August 2024 – On the evening of Wednesday, 7 August, all 27 Salesian prenovices from Salesian Provinces in Europe met in Valdocco, Turin to begin a formation course in three days time on Salesian places and to promote mutual knowledge on the eve of the beginning of their novitiate in September. The Salesian contributions were led by Fr Enrico Lupano, from the Colle Don Bosco community. The prenovices came from: Austria (1); North Africa Circumscription (1); Croatia (10); Piedmont and Valle d 'Aosta Special Circumscription (1); Italy-Lombard Emiliana (2); Northeast Italy (3); Poland-Warsaw (1); Poland-Piła (2); Slovakia (3); Slovenia (2); Greek-Catholic Ukraine (1). The young people who will enter the novitiate at Colle Don Bosco have experienced a 6-week Italian language course. As a further phase of this preparation for the novitiate, the involvement of the prenovices in the Salesian Youth Synod (11-16 August 2024) on the occasion of the Bicentennial of Don Bosco's Dream at Nine Years of Age is also included. The animation of these different periods was coordinated by Fr Guido Errico, from the Formation Sector.

  • RMG - St. Francis de Sales Communicator: All for Love

(ANS – Rome) - The figure of St. Francis de Sales, chosen by Don Bosco as an example of a communicator, teaches that communication is a matter of the heart. In his expression, "Everything in the Church is love: everything lives in love, for love, and of love," we understand his revolution in the way of communicating, and how communication becomes fruitful when it allows communion and the exchange of one's experiences in a path of accompaniment and collaboration in God's project.

MESSAGES OF THE RECTOR MAJOR

  • WHAT A GIFT TIME IS!

THE MESSAGE OF THE VICAR OF THE RECTOR MAJOR,
    Fr Stefano Martoglio, SDB

The beginning of the new year is illuminated in our liturgy by the ancient formula with which the Israelite priests blessed the people: "May the Lord bless you, and keep you. May the Lord show His face to you, and have mercy on you. May the Lord turn His countenance to you, and give you peace."
