In his homily, Fr. Jose Lorbeth reflected on the universal pursuit of happiness, a quest that often leads people to seek fulfilment in material wealth and personal success. Fr. Jose Lorbeth’s message invited the young to contemplate the nature of happiness and to consider the fleeting satisfaction that worldly achievements often bring. He shared a striking analogy from the Olympics, where bronze medallists were found to be the happiest among the winners—not because they had reached the pinnacle of success, but because they were content with what they had achieved. In contrast, silver medallists, who came so close to winning gold, often felt unfulfilled. This example highlighted that material success and accolades do not guarantee happiness; instead, it is found in the acceptance of God’s plan and the pursuit of divine will.

One delegate’s testimony during the synod further illustrated this point. The young athlete shared how their initial pursuit of sports excellence, driven by their father's expectations, brought happiness. Yet, it was their involvement in church activities and service to fellow youth that brought them deeper fulfilment, and to their surprise, their father rejoiced even more in this newfound spiritual dedication. This story underscored that true happiness comes from aligning one’s life with God’s dream, just as Mary did.

The Assumption of Mary into heaven is a powerful testament to the joy and fulfilment that comes from a life wholly dedicated to God. Mary’s life was a continuous “yes” to God’s will, a choice she made even in the face of hardship and uncertainty. Her assumption, body and soul, into heaven is a privilege granted because of her unwavering faith and complete surrender to God’s plan. It is a reminder to all of us that heaven is the reward for those who choose God as their ultimate source of happiness.

During the offertory, the participants were given a symbolic and meaningful task. They were invited to write down the obstacles and fears that hinder them from achieving their dreams and living fully according to God’s will. These written reflections were then offered to Jesus during the Eucharist, symbolizing a deep act of trust and surrender. This powerful gesture invited the young people to allow Christ to transform their fears and obstacles, turning their doubts into faith and their hesitations into courage.

As the Mass concluded, the young participants left with a renewed sense of purpose and joy, inspired by Mary’s example to embrace God’s dream for their lives. The day was a profound reminder that true and lasting happiness is found not in the fleeting achievements of this world, but in the eternal joy that comes from living in harmony with God’s will. Just as Mary was assumed into heaven, those who choose to follow God with their whole hearts are also promised the joy of eternal life with Him.
