Rome, Italy - May 2022 - The ministries of Acolyte and Lector were conferred on 16 theology students from the Zeffirino Namuncurá community in Rome on May 8, Good Shepherd Sunday, at Sacred Heart Parish in Ponte Mammolo, during Mass presided over by Fr Maria Arokiam Kanaga, Superior of the Vice-Province of the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS). Fr Ivo Coelho, General Councilor for Formation, was also present at the celebration.
Caserta, Italy - May 2022 - The youth orchestra of the Salesian Institute "Sacred Heart of Mary" of Caserta has brought high the name of the city and of Don Bosco, as it recently won three first prizes, two in international music competitions and a national one. The competitions: "International music competition Giovani promesse" of Bracigliano (April 8); "National music competition Umberto Giordano" of Foggia (May 2); and the "Concorso Internazionale Musicale Città di Pesaro" (May 6). Formed by about 50 pupils of the Don Bosco school (from the first year of elementary school to the fifth year of high school), the orchestra is directed by Maestro Enzo Anastasio, with the organizational supervision of Professor Massimo Barone and Agostino Barone, former principal of the Salesian middle school. Now they are aiming at "Procida Capital of Culture": the young musicians of the Don Bosco school, in fact, will be the protagonists of the event "The world saved by children" in the splendid setting of the island of Procida.
(ANS - Turin) - On Sunday 8th May, in Valdocco, the moment of commitment arrived for those who decided to become members of the Association of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA). After a path of preparation that began in June 2021 and which saw monthly appointments, 32 new aspirants - young people, young couples, and adults - celebrated their commitment and became part of the Association of Mary Help of Christians during a day full of prayer, catechesis, sharing, a day that culminated in the Eucharist.
(ANS - Modica) - On Saturday, May 7, the Maggiore Hospital in Modica was named after and dedicated to the Servant of God "Nino Baglieri", Volunteer with Don Bosco (CDB). The Azienda Sanitaria Provinciale (ASP) 7 of Ragusa, the province’s public hospital district, at the request of the Municipal Administration, after hearing the Diocese of Noto and with the final endorsement of the Prefecture of Ragusa, has completed the process of its naming in record time. The inauguration was attended by the relatives of Nino Baglieri, religious and civil authorities, and, for the Salesian Family, the Provincial of Sicily, Fr Giovanni D'Andrea.
(ANS - Castelnuovo Don Bosco) - The Salesian School of Spiritual Accompaniment, which saw the participation of 25 English-speaking Salesians from 15 different countries and 5 Salesian Regions of the world, concluded its intense cycle lasting five weeks at Colle Don Bosco last Friday, May 6, the feast day of St. Dominic Savio.
(ANS - Turin) - On May 4, one of the proposals made in the planning of the 2020-2026 term of the Youth Ministry Sector began: the accompaniment and qualification of Provincial Delegates for Youth Ministry. There are three aims of this initiative in which 46 delegates from all Regions participate. First of all, to offer an in-depth vision of the Salesian educative-pastoral model, in line with the "Frame of Reference" for Salesian Youth Ministry. Also included are experiences or services of animation and vocational orientation, educational strategies and interventions regarding youth and prayer, the theme of the relationship between youth, music and media, and lastly, integral ecology.

(ANS - Rome) - Don Bosco is perhaps the most amazing and fascinating saint, history has ever produced. The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

Spain – 33rd Edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature: Here Are the Winners
(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
