(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

Award-Winning Novels

  • Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three sad children and a half unicorn)tells the story of an improvised group of children searching for their place in the world. Their adventure becomes a journey of self-discovery and transformation, guided by a magical manual. Filled with humor, imagination, and creativity, the novel blends fantasy and resilience, emphasizing the greatest power of all: friendship.
  • La cacería (The Hunt)follows six participants selected to test VENARI, an innovative mixed-reality game controlled by artificial intelligence. What begins as a thrilling competition turns into a deadly chase, where the roles are reversed, and the players become the prey. The novel invites readers to reflect on the delicate balance between emotional intelligence and the impact of new technologies.

Two very different stories aimed at different audiences but united by a common theme: highlighting the human ability to create new worlds and survive on the fine line between reality, technology, and fantasy.

33 Years as a Stronghold of Children's and Young Adult Literature

In 2025, the Edebé Prize celebrates 33 years of literary tradition, continuing its mission to promote high-quality storytelling and encourage a love for literature from an early age. The competition also fosters cultural diversity and universal access to books, as Edebé’s works are published in Spain’s four official languages—Spanish, Catalan, Galician, and Basque—and made available in Braille and audiobook formats.

This 33rd edition stood out not only for its prestigious reputation but also for its significant prize fund, with a total of €55,000 awarded to the winners:

  • €30,000 for the children’s literature category
  • €25,000 for the young adult literature category

The competition also saw a strong turnout, with 209 original manuscripts submitted from Spain and Latin America:

  • 115 entries in the children’s category
  • 94 entries in the young adult category
  • 162 written in Spanish, 33 in Catalan, 10 in Galician, and 4 in Basque

A Platform for New and Established Authors

Reina Duarte, Editorial Director of Edebé, highlighted the prestige and significance of the awards, stating:

"I am amazed by the level of quality and originality in this 2025 edition of the Edebé Prize—it fills me with pride. What an incredible selection of novels! Just when it seems like everything has already been written, used, or even misinterpreted, the ability to surprise and move us with a story speaks to the professionalism, genius, and talent of the authors. Frankly, our writers for children and young adults have set the bar so high that it’s time to forget the notion that this is ‘lesser’ literature. It may be for young readers, but it is great literature—truly great.”

An International Legacy

Since its inception in 1993, the Edebé Prize has crossed international borders, with:

  • 167 international editions
  • Translations into 22 languages
  • Presence in 25 countries

The competition continues to uphold linguistic diversity, enriching cultural knowledge and bringing remarkable stories to readers around the world.
