(ANS – Venice) – On Sunday, 14 April 2024, as many as 7,500 members – and a total of over 8,000 people, also considering the 330 volunteers and the 200 individuals and companions of guest folk groups – participated in the traditional Solidarity Walk called "Su e Zo per i Ponti di Venezia" (Up and Down Veneticn Bridges, in Venetian dialect): a sustainable tourism initiative organised by the Salesian TGS Eurogroup NGO, which also associates a solidarity project with the event every year, aimed this year at Salesian works in the Holy Land.
(ANS – Rome) – On Friday, 12 April 2024, the General Councillor for Social Communication of the Salesian Congregation, Fr Gildasio Mendes, began an Animation Visit to Our Lady of the Assumption Province Central Africa (AFC). Welcomed by the Provincial Superior, Fr Guillermo Basañes, the General Councillor did not take long to get to work and on the same day of his arrival he had a private working session with Fr Basañes and then with a small group from the Provincial Commission for Social Communication.
(ANS – Seville) – The ceremony for the 25th anniversary of the Fundación Don Bosco was held on 9 April at the CaixaForum in Seville, attended by the President of the Andalusian Parliament, Jesús Aguirre, the Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, the Councillor for Educational Development, Patricia del Pozo, the Councillor for Employment, Rocío Blanco, and the Deputy Director General of the la Caixa Banking Foundation, Marc Simón.
(ANS – Medellín) – On Wednesday, 10 April St Louis Bertrand Province of Medellín , Colombia, was issued the ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management Systems from the Colombian Institute for Technical Standards (ICONTEC). This ISO 14001 is an intentional standard whose purpose is to protect the environment and respond to changing environmental conditions, creating options to contribute to sustainable development.
(ANS - Brussels) – The"European Sunday Alliance", whose organisational members include Don Bosco International, in the person of the Executive Secretary, Sara Sechi, invited a member of the Youth Ministry Sector, Antonella Synagogue, to a European parliamentary breakfast on 10 April 2024, hosted by MEPs Miriam Lexmann and Tomáš Zdechovský on the theme: "The importance of ‘Sunday protection’ in EU policy initiatives on mental health and loneliness."
(ANS – Vatican City) – Forty years ago, on 14 April 1984, the first gathering of young people took place in St Peter's Square with the Pope, which was the seed from which the World Youth Days (WYD) subsequently arose. On Palm Sunday of that year, as part of the Youth Jubilee, Saint John Paul II gave the cross to young people with the mission of carrying it throughout the world, as a sign and reminder that only in Jesus dead and risen is there salvation and redemption. To celebrate this significant anniversary, during the weekend just passed, the International San Lorenzo Youth Centre with the patronage of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life and the John Paul II Foundation for Youth, organised a series of commemorative events.
