(ANS – Rome) – On 18 December 1859, 162 years ago today, with 17 members, Don Bosco founded our Congregation with the name of « Pious Society of St. Francis de Sales ». Since that distant 1859 our Society has not ceased to spread throughout the five continents, with a clear educational charism towards the most disadvantaged youth and a missionary spirit and commitment without geographical limits.
(ANS - Rome) - With the consent of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, has decided to confirm Fr James Briody as Provincial Superior of the "St Thomas of Canterbury" Province of Great Britain (GBR) for the 2022-2028 term.
(ANS - Rome) – The Salesian Communicators’ School of Formation for North America met for the first time on Wednesday, October 27 at 1:00 pm ET via Zoom. The meeting was led by Julia St. Clair, communications coordinator for the SUE Province, and presented by Fr. Gildásio Mendes dos Santos, SDB, general councilor for social communication.
(ANS - Rome) - During the meeting of the General Council on Wednesday 15 December, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consensus of the same Council, appointed Fr Francisco Inácio Vieira Junior, the new Provincial Superior of the BRE Province.
(ANS - Rome) - Next Sunday, 19 December, at 9:00 (UTC + 1) an episode of the "Viaggi del cuore - Journeys of the Heart" TV program entirely dedicated to the Salesians will be broadcast on Italy’s national television channel Rete4. Fr Davide Banzato, spiritual assistant of the "Nuovi Orizzonti" association and well-known face of Italian TV, will introduce the topics offered by various guests who will deepen the figures of St. Francis de Sales and Don Bosco, and the value and significance of the Salesian missions, of yesteryear and today. In conclusion, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians, will also speak.
(ANS - Rome) - Yesterday, Tuesday, December 14, during the winter plenary session of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr Bartłomiej Polański Superior of the Province of Poland-Wrocław (PLO) for the six-year period 2022-2028.

(ANS - Rome) - Don Bosco is perhaps the most amazing and fascinating saint, history has ever produced. The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

Spain – 33rd Edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature: Here Are the Winners
(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
