(ANS - Rome) - The General Council elected by the 28th General Chapter completed its summer work session on Friday 10 July. “They were very special meetings: during this pandemic period from Covid-19 we organized the meetings in attendance with the Councilors in Rome and online with those in other parts of the world,” said the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, in the “goodnight” offered to the Salesians of the Central Office.
Rome, Italy - July 2020 - The new General Councilor for Youth Ministry (YM), Fr Miguel Ángel García Morcuende, and Fr Patrick Anthonyraj, coordinator of YM Delegates of the South Asia, East Asia-Oceania and Africa-Madagascar regions, have started the first animation phase of the YM Delegates for the next six years (2020-2026). On 11 July, one-to-one personal meetings took place online with the YM Delegates of the Africa-Madagascar Region: Vice Province of Zambia (ZMB), the Province of East Africa and South Sudan, Vice Province of Southern Africa (AFM) and Anglophone West Africa Province (AFW). Everyone shared their own life stories. The challenges, animation at the regional level, the YM Department's expectations were the central themes of the meetings.
(ANS - Rome) - Issue 74 (January-June 2020) of "Ricerche Storiche Salesiane" (RSS), the bimonthly magazine of religious and civil history, published by the Salesian Historical Institute (ISS) has been published. The magazine now boasts a new, more modern and appealing graphic layout. This issue features two important figures for the Salesian Congregation: Fr Aldo Giraudo, associate member of the Salesian Historical Institute, on the occasion of his 70 years of life, in recognition of his collaboration in Salesian history; and Rector Major Fr Egidio Viganò, founder of the Research and Study institution, in view of the centenary of his birth (July 26, 1920).

(ANS - Rome) - The Salesian Postulation concerns 173 saints (9), blessed (118), venerable (17), servants of God (29). The causes followed directly by the Postulation are 55. Furthermore, the Postulation also accompanies the Causes of the Venerable Camillo Costa de Beauregard, priest of the diocese of Chambery (France); Casimiro Barello Morello, Franciscan tertiary, pilgrim between Italy and Spain; Augusto Bertazzoni, archbishop of Potenza; and the Servant of God Felice Canelli, priest of the diocese of San Severo and Salesian Cooperator.

Thus Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major, defines the new document, which, with the additions received during the GC28, has reached its definitive edition, 34 years after the previous Salesian Rector's Manual.

(ANS - Rome) - Don Bosco is perhaps the most amazing and fascinating saint, history has ever produced. The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

Spain – 33rd Edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature: Here Are the Winners
(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
