Poor young people if, in addition to all that must be done to survive during this time, we kill, annul, or maim their dreams and their desire to do something great and beautiful with their lives.

Today is therefore a day of triumph and blessing for the Salesian Congregation, given that the Lord has called Bro. Renato Celato, Salesian Coadjutor, for decades at the service, tireless and discreet, of the Rectors Major and of the community of the Salesian Central Office.
RMG - August 2020 - The Delegates for Social Communication of the East Asia-Oceania Region held their first online meeting on Wednesday 5 August with the new General Councilor for Social Communication, Fr Gildásio Mendes, and the new Regional Councilor, Fr Joseph Phuoc. The Delegates shared their many activities and the results of recent months, highlighting the opportunities that the network has offered in times of pandemic. “The social communication sector is vital for the region. Through it we work in synergy with the various commissions - Formation, Youth Ministry, Salesian Family and Missions,” said Fr Phuoc. For his part, Fr Mendes dos Santos illustrated the priorities of the Salesian Communication Department.
(ANS - Rome) - After speaking with many Provincials, heard their needs, and after consulting members of the General Council, with the leaders of the Salesian Family and the Salesians of the Salesian Central Office, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, elaborated the theme of the Strenna for 2021, emblem of the Salesian response to the current situation generated by the pandemic: «Hope moves us: "Behold, I make all things new" (Rev 21,5)».

Don Bosco, Communicator of the Father’s love for the young, left his own testimony to the Salesians in the great motto: ‘Da mihi animas, caetera tolle’. Don Bosco, in faithful response to the call of God’s love in his life, and following Jesus Christ, Communicator of the Father, drew the map of the world in his heart, and dreamed of educating and evangelising young people everywhere”. That's how Fr Gildásio Mendes dos Santos SDB, General Councillor for Social Communication, begins his message of introduction of the 2020 Map of the Salesian presence in the world.
(ANS - Rome) - The online meeting of the leaders of the Salesian publishing houses in Europe was held on 29 July, chaired by the General Councilor for Social Communications, Fr Gildásio Mendes dos Santos. The topics dealt with, on the one hand, how the publishers dealt with the Covid-19 crisis, the way in which confinement affected them, the effects on sales ... And on the other, how they prepare to face the future.

RMG – Don Bosco: “The Fascinating Saint”
(ANS - Rome) - Don Bosco is perhaps the most amazing and fascinating saint, history has ever produced. The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

Spain – 33rd Edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature: Here Are the Winners
(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
