(ANS - Castello di Godego) - Salesian Coadjutor Br. Antonio Maggiotto passed away yesterday, Tuesday, July 19, in Castello di Godego. His last assignment, was that of being the Economer of the Salesian house at Testaccio, in Rome, since 2013, and prior to that he had provided 38 years of highly qualified service to the Holy See (from 1975 until 2013) as technical director of the daily Osservatore Romano and as commercial director of the Vatican Printing Press, during which he had the joy of meeting five Popes.
Turin, Italy - July 2022 - The training program for animators of the Salesian Central Italy Circumscription (ICC) is taking place from July 19 to 22. Included in the program, organized by the ICC Province Youth Ministry Team, is a visit to the Casa Don Bosco House Museum, Valdocco, which allows SYM youth to literally follow Don Bosco's steps at the birth of his mission in Valdocco. Fr. Michael Pace, SDB, Deputy Director of the Don Bosco House Museum, tells ANS, "In the basement, we delve into the protagonism of the young and the origins of the family spirit shared in the refectories, the kitchen, and even the cellar of the first permanent home of the Oratory. On the second floor, young people appreciate the architectural development of the Salesian citadel, three charismatic dreams of Don Bosco, and his main collaborators. The hall of paintings presents original masterpieces from the 19th century that not only adorned the Oratory churches but were an integral part of the educational-pastoral project that matured at the Oratory. On the second floor, the humanity of Don Bosco, meditated on in the room of his life and in the room of his death, opens to the contemplation of his holiness from which the holiness of the great tree of the Salesian Family in the world, now rooted in thirty-two branches, is born. Young people make the synthesis of all this by living the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist, right here where Don Bosco made his boys love these privileged encounters with the Lord."
(ANS - Pellaro) - The 50th anniversary of the death of the Servant of God Monsignor Giuseppe Cognata is approaching, which occurred on July 22, 1972, in Pellaro (Reggio Calabria), the place where the Congregation of the Salesian Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart had begun. Very intense was his pastoral mystery in the land of Calabria in the years from 1933, when he was consecrated bishop of Bova, until his dismissal from the episcopal order in 1940 as a result of slanderous libels.
Parma, Italy - July 2022 - On July 9 in the Duomo of Parma, Salesians Luca Casari and Gianluca Villa, of the Lombardo-Emiliana Province (ILE), were ordained presbyters through the laying on of hands and consecratory prayer of Msgr. Enrico Solmi, Bishop of Parma.
Turin, Italy - July 2022 - The "Estate Ragazzi", or youth summer camp, is being held these weeks at the Salesian Oratory of Crocetta, in which about 200 children and young people take part every day, accompanied by a team of 40 animators. One of the animators, Federica Manzon, said, "The days go by quickly, under the sun, among a wide variety of activities, starting from games, such as 'Stratego' to long queues with the children at the Cupola slides; from lunches where you experience the thrill of carrying four plates of pasta like a real professional waiter, to free time (...). La Crocetta is not only an oratory, but it is also a small family that includes as many people as possible who want to be a part of it." Like her, many other young animators are living these weeks in contact with children and youth, carrying on and fulfilling Don Bosco's dream.
