(ANS - Messina) - Giovanni Napolitano, a young man from the Salesian Giostra Oratory in Messina, is one of the three best students in the first edition of the "Customer Service School," the free advanced training school promoted by Samsung Electronics Italia, Randstad Italia, and Salesiani per il Sociale, created to train Service specialists for the territory. The Corporate area of Salesians for Social's Fund Raising office has initiated a synergy with Samsung and other companies to create training and employment opportunities for disadvantaged youth.
(ANS - Rome) - The "Cronichetta" of Fr. Giulio Barberis, SDB, is a document of great historical and charismatic relevance. The “little chronicles” cover the period from May 1875 to June 1879, decisive years for the Salesian work, which was beginning its worldwide expansion. The fifteen notebooks of the first Salesian Novice Master bring readers into direct contact with the real Don Bosco and the daily life of the Oratory, with the spirit that animated it and with the problems and labors of a rapidly growing community. Massimo Schwarzel edited the critical edition in a meaty 770-page volume published by the Istituto Storico Salesiano, the Salesian Historical Institute (ISS), and presented to the public on Monday, Oct. 24, at the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS).
(ANS - Rome) - The traditional solidarity run of the “Corsa dei Santi” will take place on 1 November in Rome for the 14th time, a marathon promoted by the sports association, ASD Corsa dei Santi, which is always associated with international solidarity projects. This year, the initiative supports the project of the Salesian NGO "Missioni Don Bosco" of Turin, in favor of the school in Tshikapa, Democratic Republic of Congo, and will bring together runners, men and women, from different countries, all committed to spreading the word that "the most precious diamond is education."
(ANS - Schio) – A huge crowd gathered in Schio to greet Roberto Baggio, the legend of that beautiful football made of sacrifice, sweat, and a lot of passion, with fans and sympathizers of all ages. The athlete, Ballon d'Or in 1993, Vice-World Champion in 1994, and winner of numerous national and international titles, took the field on Sunday afternoon, October 23, to act as godfather at the inauguration of the synthetic field at the Schio Salesian Oratory, cutting, together with the city's mayor, Valter Orsi, the ribbon marking the beginning of this new adventure.
Rome, Italy - October 2022 - Yesterday afternoon, Oct. 25, Pope Francis took part at the Colosseum in the final act of the prayer meeting for peace promoted by the Community of Sant'Egidio, signing a common appeal with Christian leaders and world religions. After the moment of prayer inside the Flavian Amphitheater, the final ceremony took place on the stage set up outside with some testimonies and closing speeches followed by a minute of silence to remember the victims of war, terrorism, violence, and human trafficking. The appeal was then delivered to some boys and girls by the writer, witness of the Shoah, Edith Bruck, and symbolically to all the youth of the world. In his speech Pope Francis, after thanking all those present, said "This year our prayer has become a 'cry,' because today peace is gravely violated, wounded, trampled: and this in Europe, that is, on the continent that in the last century experienced the tragedies of the two world wars. We are in the third one. Unfortunately, since then, wars have never stopped bloodying and impoverishing the earth, but the moment we are living is particularly dramatic." The Pontiff emphasizes once again that "peace is at the heart of religions," that peace which is denied and humiliated in so many parts of the world and whose cry is often silenced "by war rhetoric," but also by hatred and indifference. Yet it is an invocation that, the Pope says, "cannot be suppressed."

(ANS - Kyiv) - A recent report by the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) highlighted the urgency of preparing the population for the coming harsh Ukrainian winter, as so many buildings have been damaged, including more than 2,000 school facilities, of which 285 have been completely destroyed. That is why on the Salesian side, together with other international partners, a forward-looking program is about to start, aiming to prepare the population for the arrival of the winter season and to support children who have not seen their schools reopen.
