SPECIAL REPORTS
(ANS - Bukavu) - Because of Mother's Day, celebrated in May in many parts of the world, we'd like to present the portraits of a few "Mothers Courage" of Bukavu: suffering mothers, who try to make due and move forward for the sake of their families. All these women belong to the female groups of mutual support AVEC (Association Villageoise d'Epargne et Crédit - Association for savings and credit in the villages), of which the Don Bosco Center of Bukavu (CDB) is promoter and supporter.
(ANS - Auckland) – On the Feast day of Saint Dominic Savio (6 May) all four Salesians of the Auckland community (still living in two locations - Massey and Avondale) came together for prayer, meal and sharing. Ten years ago the first presence in Auckland was started and now is a good time to ask “How is the Salesian Charism being shared in this country with multi-cultural and multi-religious population?”
(ANS – Newton) – The year was 1928. The location was the grounds of what had been known as the Horton property in Newton, New Jersey. The principal individual involved was Fr. Richard Pittini, SDB. Fr. Pittini, a native of Italy, had become the provincial superior of the Salesians in the United States the previous year, and he was looking for an appropriate place for a seminary for training future Salesian priests and brothers. This beautiful property nestled in the rolling hills of Sussex County seemed to fit the bill perfectly. The sale was finalized in August 1928 at a price of $50,000.
(ANS - Ortona) - The "Soggiorno Proposta" recovery community, a non-profit organization, in Ortona, Abruzzo region, of the Central Italy Circumscription (ICC), proposes an educational and therapeutic path and residential activities for young victims of addictions. In this way they can participate in an itinerary of rehabilitation to life and human recovery in an environment permeated by the charism of Don Bosco.
