(ANS - Granada) - After a day in the Salesian houses in Managua and Masaya, the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, arrived in the city where the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians first came in 1912. Children and young people of the Salesian schools and those of the FMA, oratory members and past pupils, were waiting for him in Gran Sultana, Granada. The event was celebrated all the way from the Maria Auxiliadora College to Granada Salesian College where the Rector Major gave the "Good Night".

(ANS - Vatican City) - Just two weeks after he instituted the new Pontifical Council for Laity, family and life, Pope Francis has now officially established the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development with the Motu Proprio Humanam progressionem. Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson has been appointed as Prefect.

(ANS - Managua) – August 30 was the first day of the visit of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, to Nicaragua. It started with a big meeting in an educational centre of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.  According to one estimate, there were about three thousand children, adolescents and young people present. The enthusiasm of the young people of Nicaragua was in tune with the strong heat both inside and outside the Institute.

(ANS - Kazembe) - The Kingdom of Kazembe was an African state located beside the River Luapala in what is now Zambia. There is a Salesian Mission here, where a Polish missionary, Fr Slawomir Bartodziej, works. Since 2014 he has been in charge of the Distance Adoption program.

(ANS – Bangalore) - The third conference of major superiors of the Salesian Family (CMS-SF) of South Asia was held at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore on August 29 and 30, 2016.  Altogether 29 members including one founder, one Mother General and Provincials, were present for the conference, which was chaired by Fr Maria Arokiam, the Regional Councillor of South Asia.  Besides moments of sharing and community life, the group reflected and agreed upon concrete lines of action with regard to migrant youth, family ministry, and a healthy ecological outlook.  The group also openly shared issues and concerns which hamper collaboration and the common mission.  

(ANS - Rome) - The earthquake that struck central Italy did not inflict damage on any of the Salesian Houses although the shocks were heard distinctly in Rome, as well as in the houses of Macerata, Perugia, Terni, Loreto, and Civitanova. Investigations are planned for any eventual damage to the School in Macerata and the holiday houses located in Gualdo Tadino and in the mountains in Calcara di Ussita.
