(ANS – Mumbai) – The Province Secretaries of the South Asia Region convened for their annual meeting on September 17-18 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga, Mumbai. The event was marked by the presence of Fr. Biju Michael, South Asia Regional Councillor, and Fr. John Parankimalil, Secretary of the Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA).
(ANS – Aparecida) – Fr Francesco Preite, President of Salesians for Social, participated in the Continental Meeting of Salesian Works and Social Services of America, organised by the Salesian Social America Network (RASS) and the Salesian Network of Brazil (RSB) from 9 to 13 September in Aparecida, Brazil. “Salesians for Social” was the only Italian entity to participate with Andrea Farina, Head of the Congregation for Safeguarding of Minors Policies, and Renato Cursi, Executive Director of Salesians for Social. Fr Preite was able to present the group of which he is the head, in addition to the path of “Organising hope” that involved the entire network of Salesians for Social in planning for the coming years.
(ANS – Cali) – Misiones Salesianas, the Madrid Mission Office in Spain, in collaboration with the "Pueblo de Dios" program of the Spanish television's TVE" went to Colombia last year to take up and witness the work done by the Salesians in both Provinces (COB and COM): through several chapters in sequence, it documented how the Salesian mission is being carried out in the country, through the educational and pedagogical work carried out in Bogotá, Agua de Dios, Barranquilla and Cali.
(ANS – Barinas) – In a country where 34% of children and young people do not study for reasons related mainly to poverty, the Salesian Agronomic Technical School (EAS) in Barinas opens up a future full of opportunities. About 100 students between the ages of 15 and 17 receive education and training in agricultural and livestock activities. In addition, young people receive food and access to health care, participate in recreational and extracurricular activities to complete their education, and can find a welcoming space and a family atmosphere within its walls.
(ANS – Toronto) – In 1898, Archbishop John Walsh wrote to Don Rua, inviting the Salesians to the Archdiocese of Toronto to administer St. John’s Industrial School, a center of rehabilitation for boys coming out of prison. Most probably because of lack of personnel, Don Rua answered that the Salesians could not meet the request.
(ANS – Coacalco) – On 17 September, Fr Stefano Martoglio, Vicar of the Rector Major, together with Fr Ivo Coelho, General Councillor for Formation, visited the interprovincial Sacred Heart of Jesus Novitiate in Coacalco. They were accompanied by Fr Ignacio Ocampo, Superior of the Salesian Province of Mexico City (MEM), and his Vice-Provincial, Fr Carlos Barbosa.
