(ANS – Turin) – "It is with great warmth that I welcome you to Valdocco, the place where our history began, a sacred space where we gather to dream and anchor hope in our journey alongside young people": Bryan Magro, President of the Confederation, began with these words to officially announce the opening of the Extraordinary World General Assembly of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco, scheduled from 2 to 6 October 2024 in Valdocco, Turin on the theme: "Walking together: changing to continue".
(ANS – Port-au-Prince) – More than 3,000 youth in Haiti received nutritious food through a partnership between Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, and Rise Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organization growing a global movement to end hunger. The shipments of meals were received by the Salesians of Don Bosco and then distributed to 11 Salesian centers and schools in the first half of 2024. Salesians facilitated school feeding programs, family meetings, professional training, primary and secondary education, apprenticeships, catechesis classes, and various other social activities.
(ANS – Rome) – From the historical social vocation of the Faculty of Social Communication Sciences (FSC) at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS), the advanced formation course known as "Non Profit Social Comm - Social communication for non-profit organisations: strategies and tools" has materialised. This is a one-year Level I Master's Degree, aimed on the one hand at enabling the knowledge and technical skills useful for enhancing and promoting the communication of Third Sector Entities (ETS) and on the other at updating those who wish to work or who already work in this field.
(ANS – Strasbourg) – On 24 - 26 September, Don Bosco International had the pleasure to attend the Symposium on “Young people, democracy and climate action” organised by the Youth Partnership of the European Union (EU) & Council of Europe (CoE), at the European Youth Center in Strasbourg, France.
(ANS – Los Angeles) – In the heart of Los Angeles, a city often associated with dreams and opportunities, a stark and heartbreaking reality persists—children living on the streets. For many of these young ones, daily life is marked not only by homelessness but by insecurity, lack of access to education, and an uncertain future. Recently, a group of six young Salesian volunteers took action, determined to bring a moment of joy and connection to these children and their families. Armed with coloring pages, games, and face-painting supplies, they ventured into Skid Row, where they hoped to offer a glimpse of hope.
(ANS – Ortona) – Saturday 28 September 2024 saw the beginning of a year of celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the “APS Soggiorno Proposta”, an association for social promotion founded in Ortona by Salesian Fr Luigi Giovannoni. The “A landing place for new paths” conference officially began the celebratory events, offering room for reflection and testimony on the values that have guided the association for four decades.
