Vilaboa, Spain – June 2024 - The Salesian School in Puertollano has been indicated by the Ministry of the Interior as one of the ten educational centres throughout Spain that has distinguished itself for the exemplary implementation of the "Plan Director". This recognition highlights the Centre's dedication and commitment to the safety and well-being of its educational community. The "Plan Director", coordinated with the National Police Force, has as its main objective the improvement of coexistence and safety in educational centres through various educational initiatives and programs. The work carried out by the Salesians in Puertollano was fundamental to fostering a safe and harmonious school environment, establishing a model to follow for other educational centres in the country. The award ceremony was held at the CPI Do Toural, in Vilaboa (Pontevedra), chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska. This recognition highlights the joint effort of the faculty, students and the community of the Colegio Salesianos Puertollano in promoting the values of coexistence and safety. "The school you run has been recognised as an example of commitment and involvement for the materialisation of the objectives of the Plan, whose essential purpose is to provide children with the necessary tools to prevent and identify risk situations that may jeopardise their safety", says the letter signed by Fernando Grande-Marlaska. The document, which arrived on 3 June in certified form to the Principal of the Salesian school, Sergio Oter, also makes special mention of the Principal, distinguished for his "involvement in an education in values and in a safe environment".
Fortaleza, Brazil – June 2024 – The Conference of Religious of Brazil (CRB) celebrated its 70th anniversary with a Congress that brought together about 800 men and women religious from all over the country in Fortaleza. The event, which took place between 30 May and 2 June, had as its theme: "Memory, mysticism, prophecy and hope". Also present for the occasion were Salesians Fr Magno Xavier, Fr Laércio José De Lima Barbosa, Fr Gilvan Galdino and practical trainee Stepheson dos Passos, as well as numerous other Salesians from the various Brazilian Provinces. The Congress began with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Archbishop Gregório Paixão (OSB), Archbishop of Fortaleza, and concelebrated by Bishop. Júlio César Souza de Jesus, Auxiliary Bishop of Fortaleza, and Bishop Edmilson Tadeu Canavarros dos Santos, SDB, Auxiliary Bishop of Manaus. During the days of the congress, characterised by joy, hope and prayer, the participants also had the opportunity to go on pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of San Francesco delle Piaghe in Canindé. Finally, Fr Magno and Stepheson dos Passos were entrusted with the course on "Youth Reality", whose objective was to contextualise youth reality, the plurality of contexts, experiences, opportunities and sensitivities. The Congress then ended with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Bishop Ricardo Hoepers, Auxiliary Bishop of Brasilia and Secretary General of the National Episcopal Conference of Brazil (CNBB).
Los Mochis, Mexico – May 2024 - On24 May, in the celebration for Mary Help of Christians, at the Domingo Savio Oratory in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, the Eucharist was held to celebrate two new promises of the Salesian Cooperators Centre at María Auxiliadora Reina del Valle. The promises were received by the Provincial Coordinator Alfredo Algandar Alvarado, accompanied by María Pérez Corral, councillor of the Pacific Northwest Zone, and Paula Cruz Alejos Coordinator of the local centre, together with all the participants of the centre who renewed their promise as Salesian Cooperators. The Eucharist was presided over by Fr Ernesto Sandoval, SDB, Rector of the Salesian work at Los Mochis, Sinaloa.
Turin, Italy – May 2024 - From 27 to 31 May, 54 students from eighth year at the Salesians in Manique, accompanied by the Rector, Fr Luís Almeida, the pastoral coordinator, Fr Ronaldo Pereira, and other educators, had an extraordinary experience in the places of Don Bosco. The purpose of the trip was to make known the life and work of St John Bosco, passing through the places that marked his life and the beginning of the Salesian Congregation. The group visited Colle Don Bosco and the city of Chieri, retracing the times of Don Bosco's childhood and youth, thus knowing his humble roots. In the year in which the bicentenary of the Nine-Year Dream is celebrated, right in the place where young John lived, the Salesian students were able to confront the tenacity and strength of the young man who did everything to realise his dream at the Becchi. There was time to visit the city of Turin, the wandering festive Oratory and the Mother House of the Salesians at Valdocco. The group also visited the city of Milan and the Duomo. For the young people it was a significant experience to get to know the roots of the "dream" that they experience every day at school. Everyone remembered the visit to the "Casa Don Bosco Museum" and the bedrooms of St John Bosco as something unforgettable.
Sao Paolo, Brazil – May 2024 – Salesians in the Mary Help of Christians Province of Sao Paolo Brazil (BSP) met from 26 to 29 May, to take part in the 32nd Provincial Chapter, a crucial opportunity to reflect on fundamental issues, make strategy and make significant decisions in view of the 29th General Chapter (GC29). The theme chosen is inspired by GC29's "Passionate about Jesus Christ, dedicated to young people. Living our Salesian vocation faithfully and prophetically.“ The choice of themes reflects the centrality of Jesus Christ in the Salesian mission and underlines the importance of service to young people, which is at the heart of the Salesian vocation. The Provincial Chapter was opened by the welcome address from Vice-Provincial Fr Mauricio Tadeu Miranda, followed by Fr Alexandre Luis de Oliveira, BSP Provincial, who illustrated a report on the status of the Province. After days of meeting, dialogue and reflection around the three core areas of the GC29, the Chapter elected Fr Ronaldo Zacharias as delegate to the GC29 and Fr Jeferson Luiz Pereira da Silva as substitute.
Mestre, Italy – June 2024 - The 3rd Youth Meeting of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) took place on 2 June at the Salesian House in Mestre, , an event that involved some 800 high school boys and girls from all over the Triveneto. The guiding theme of the meeting was Don Bosco's Dream at Nine Years of age with the motto: "You see further than I do". The day began with the arrival of the participants, welcomed with moments of animation to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and community. The official introduction was accompanied by a prayer and a theatrical performance on Don Bosco's Dream. The young people then participated in a series of workshops on various topics: evangelisation, Artificial Intelligence, sports, music, social and influencers, etc. All were designed and held by the young people themselves, at the service of other young people, with the opportunity to explore various aspects of youth life, discuss current issues and receive stimuli for their personal and spiritual growth. After a break, the young people took part in Holy Mass, celebrated by the Superior of the Salesian Province Italy-North East (INE), Fr Igino Biffi. This moment of recollection and spirituality allowed young people to reflect on the importance of the Eucharist in their lives. In the afternoon, after the animation activities, a great photo treasure hunt followed. The day ended with a final moment of reflection, followed by greetings.
