Córdoba, Argentina – May 2024 - On May 31, the Fifth Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Province of Argentina North (ARN) ended, bringing together 38 Salesians in an atmosphere of fraternity and community work. Fr Horacio Barbieri, Superior of the ARN Province, expressed his gratitude to all the Chapter members for their commitment and participation and at the same time, stressed that the entire Provincial Family accompanied this important event for the institution. The election of the Provincial Delegate who will participate together with the Provincial in GC29 to be held in Turin in 2025 took place before the end of the day. . The assembly elected Salesian Brother Lucas Mautino.
Yamanaka, Japan – June 2024 – The Salesian Province of Japan (GIA) began its Provincial Chapter at the FMA Retreat House in Yamanaka, 2-6 June. Under the theme "Passionate about Jesus Christ, dedicated to young people", the Chapter delved into the documents of the upcoming GC29 and its three core areas, culminating in discussions on the restructuring of the Province. The Chapter began with Eucharistic Adoration presided over by Fr Hamaguchi Hideaki, SDB, Superior of the GIA Province, in the presence of 25 participants, including members of the Provincial Council, Rectors of local houses, community delegates, elected representatives of the Province and the secretariat team.
Rome, Italy – June 2024 – The Italian national Salesian Symphony Orchestra (OSS) made its debut on Sunday 2 June, the Feast of Corpus Christi and Italian Republic Day, with a concert at the parish Basilica of Saint John Bosco in Rome. Comprising 32 elements, led by Maestro Giuseppe Lo Presti - also a collaborator of the Secretariat for the Salesian Family - the orchestra played a varied programme of 10 pieces, two of which were dedicated to Don Bosco: one work by Maestro Marco Frisina and the other composed by Lo Presti himself, the latter piece accompanied by a choir of four voices. Introduced by words of thanks from the parish priest, Fr Roberto Colameo, at the end of the performance the Director of the OSS greeted the audience and reminded them of the aim of this initiative, “To be with Don Bosco through orchestral music and together with him to form and grow, musically and in Salesian spirituality.”
Paraguay – May 2024 - Consultation meetings began to elect the new Provincial of the Salesians in Paraguay on Saturday 25 May, with the arrival of Fr Gabriel Romero, Councilor for the America South Cone Region. The consultation was convened by the Rector Major, through a letter addressed to the Province on the occasion of the feast of St Francis de Sales. The provincial consultation took place in a series of three meetings in which the objective was to gather the reflection and response of each Salesian of the PAR Province. The first took place on Saturday, 25 May in the city of Coronel Oviedo, where the communities of Minga Guazú, Ypacaraí and Coronel Oviedo participated. The second meeting took place in the city of Concepción, where the Salesian communities of the north of the country and the Paraguayan Chaco participated. The third and final meeting took place on Tuesday 28 May at the Monseñor Lasagna school, with the Salesian communities in Asunción and Fernando de la Mora. Fr Gabriel Romero visited Casa Zatti, where the Salesians there need care, so that they too could participate in the consultation.
La Crau, France – June 2024 – About 350 students from Salesian schools in the south of France gathered to reflect on Don Bosco's Childhood Dream, whose bicentenary occurs this year. The day was organised and prepared by the Pastoral teams and teachers, in collaboration with the Directors of five Salesian schools: Sévigné" and Pastré in Marseille, Bon Accueil in Toulon, Don Bosco in Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and the Nazareth institute in Nice. Also present, for the occasion, were Fr Xavier Ernst, Provincial Delegate for Youth Ministry, and Fr Jean Laporte, Rector and Economer of the Salesian community in La Crau. Participants also had the opportunity to explore figures such as Don Bosco himself, Saint Dominic Savio and Mother Mazzarello, as well as to share their dreams with others. The day ended in a festive and family atmosphere, with a moment of prayer and song.
Morelia, Mexico – May 2024 – The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Anáhuac centre of the Salesian Cooperators and the renewal of the promise of 27 members of the Association took place Saturday 25 May in the city of Morelia, State of Michoacán. The Eucharist was celebrated by Fr José Luis Anguiano, SDB, and the renewal of the Promise was welcomed by Agustín Leopoldo Bautista Cisneros and María Guadalupe López Colmenares, ASC Provincial Councillors for Administration and Formation, respectively. They were accompanied by Sister Carmen Rodríguez Maldonado FMA, Delegate of local work, by the entire FMA community of work, and by the other groups of the Salesian Family active in Salesian work.
