Alafua, Samoa – April 2025 – In a heartfelt display of faith, students and staff at the Don Bosco Technical Center in Alafua came together for a moving Stations of the Cross during Holy Week.
Led by Principal Mane Su'a, faculty members, and spiritual guide Fr. Paselio Tevaga (SDB), the school’s field was transformed into sacred ground for prayer and reflection. Each class prepared and enacted different stations, portraying moments of Christ’s Passion with deep reverence.
The creativity and devotion of the students brought each scene to life—from carrying the cross to the compassion of Veronica (portrayed by Emolisa Partch).
The presentations, combined with reflection and strong spiritual leadership, left a lasting impression on the entire school community. Parents and staff alike praised the students’ dedication.
This artistic expression of faith was not only a showcase of student talent but also a powerful spiritual exercise, reminding everyone that through prayer and unity, even life’s most difficult moments can bring people closer to Christ’s teachings.
Warsaw, Poland – April 2025 – On April 1, representatives from the Salesian Vocational Schools in Łódź and Fr. Krzysztof Grzendzinski, Economer of the Salesian Province of Warsaw (PLE), took part in a national conference hosted at the headquarters of PKP Intercity S.A.
Titled “Industrial Competence Centers: A New Model for Railway Industry Training,” the event highlighted innovative Salesian vocational initiatives. The focus was on the new Branch Training Center (BCU) being developed at the Salesian Vocational School in Łódź, in collaboration with PKP Intercity S.A. and the Association of Railway Employers.
Starting in September 2025, both youth and adults will be able to enhance their skills in railway mechatronics at the Łódź BCU. A similar center is also being developed in Siedlce, focused on railway system interoperability.
The conference concluded with a panel discussion on collaboration between the railway sector and vocational education.
“We’re proud to be part of this forward-thinking project and to support the development of future specialists,” the Salesians said.
Chennai, India – April 2025 – The Salesian Provinces of Chennai (INM) and Tiruchy (INT) jointly hosted Youth Easter 2025, a three-day spiritual journey held April 10–12 at the Don Bosco Youth Animation Center in Ennore.
Around 60 young people from various Salesian parishes across Tamil Nadu gathered to explore the deep meaning of Christ’s Passion, Death, and Resurrection. The retreat began with an inspiring session led by Fr. John Christy (INM) and Fr. Charles (INT), encouraging youth to embark on a journey of faith and self-discovery.
Sessions throughout the retreat delved into themes such as missionary discipleship and the significance of Easter in the Old and New Testaments. Liturgical moments like washing of the feet, a pilgrimage, and the Way of the Cross created impactful spiritual experiences. Many participants also received the Sacrament of Reconciliation, finding peace and renewal. The final day began with a reflective sunrise session on Ennore Beach, followed by a thanksgiving Mass celebrating the joy of the Resurrection and new life.
Germany – April 2025 – As part of a dynamic cultural exchange initiative, eleven young Zambians traveled to Germany to present artistic interpretations of SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.Last October, a program was launched that really shines a spotlight on the importance of young people’s voices in global discussions about sustainable development. The Zambian participants spent months getting ready with local artists and mentors, creating a mix of music, dance, visual art, and poetry. All of it was designed to spark thought and inspire action on creating economic opportunities in their communities.
While in Germany, they’ll attend workshops, networking events, and cultural exhibitions alongside German peers. Sponsored by the Salesians of Don Bosco in Germany, with support from Claudia Steiner and Fr. Christopher Kunda (Youth Delegate of the ZMB Vice Province), the initiative not only showcases Zambia’s rich culture but fosters dialogue around shared challenges and solutions. Upon returning home, participants plan to host workshops and exhibitions to spread what they've learned and promote SDG 8 locally.
Szombathely, Hungary – April 2025 – On Palm Sunday, April 13, the Salesian Oratory in Szombathely hosted a powerful Passion Play directed by the local Salesian Youth Center, featuring more than 50 young performers. Titled “The Passion and the Mystery”, the hour-long production transcended traditional theater, vividly depicting the final hours of Jesus' life. From Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem to the Last Supper, Gethsemane, His arrest, trial, Peter’s denial, the Way of the Cross, and the Crucifixion, each scene was carefully crafted to immerse the audience in the story. The realistic set design, expressive performances, dramatic music, and sound effects made emotions nearly tangible. The audience didn’t just watch—they felt and participated. This wasn’t just a play—it was a lasting spiritual experience. Kudos to the Szombathely Youth Center!
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – April 2025 – The country is mourning after the tragic collapse of a nightclub roof on April 8 in Santo Domingo. According to Public Health Minister Víctor Atallah, the incident claimed 225 lives, with 189 people rescued and 27 hospitalized. In a heartfelt act of solidarity, the Salesians have opened their parish halls in Santo Domingo for funeral vigils, including for nine victims who were former Salesian students.
“With deep sorrow, the Salesian Family joins in prayer and solidarity following this tragedy that has shaken our nation,” said members of the ANT Province. “By opening the doors of our parish halls and Salesian houses, we hope to provide a space of comfort, faith, and togetherness during this time of grief, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the Dominican government in the face of this disaster.”
