Italy - Portuguese Salesian students visit the sites of Don Bosco

06 June 2024

Turin, Italy – May 2024 - From 27 to 31 May, 54 students from eighth year at the Salesians in Manique, accompanied by the Rector, Fr Luís Almeida, the pastoral coordinator, Fr Ronaldo Pereira, and other educators, had an extraordinary experience in the places of Don Bosco. The purpose of the trip was to make known the life and work of St John Bosco, passing through the places that marked his life and the beginning of the Salesian Congregation. The group visited Colle Don Bosco and the city of Chieri, retracing the times of Don Bosco's childhood and youth, thus knowing his humble roots. In the year in which the bicentenary of the Nine-Year Dream is celebrated, right in the place where young John lived, the Salesian students were able to confront the tenacity and strength of the young man who did everything to realise his dream at the Becchi. There was time to visit the city of Turin, the wandering festive Oratory and the Mother House of the Salesians at Valdocco. The group also visited the city of Milan and the Duomo. For the young people it was a significant experience to get to know the roots of the "dream" that they experience every day at school. Everyone remembered the visit to the "Casa Don Bosco Museum" and the bedrooms of St John Bosco as something unforgettable.
