Rukago, Burundi - July 2017 - During the celebration of the Incoronation of Mary Help of Christians in Algeciras (Spain), donations were gathered in support of the hotel business vocational training course for young women from the Rukago region of Burundi, and its Vocational Training Center of “Buterere.” This project, which ends in February 2018, is intended to be a concrete response to combating women's poverty in rural areas by offering women quality full-scale education.
Chennai, India - July 2017 - On 21 and 22 July, at "St. Bede's Academy" of Santhome, 45 teachers of the Salesian and Catholic schools of Chennai took part in a training lab related to the support of students with learning difficulties. The program was organized by "Niraivagam - Don Bosco Institute of Psychological Services" in collaboration with the "Nandavanam - Learning Support Center for Learning Difficulties."
Lubumbashi, D.R. Congo - July 2017 - On July 15, the Archbishop of Lubumbashi, Mgr. Jean-Pierre Tafunga, SDB, presided over the ordination of 23 priests and 29 deacons; of these, one priest and 17 deacons are Salesians.
Battersea, Great Britain - July 2017 - On July 16, in the parish of the Sacred Heart of Battersea, the perpetual professions of two Salesians belonging to the GBR Province, Joseph Tran, originally from Vietnam, and Gregory Echegwo, of Nigeria, took place. Present: Fr. Guillermo Basañes, General Counsel for Missions, and Fr Gerry Briody, GBR Provincial.
(ANS - Rome) - The water of life, the one only Jesus can give, and Salesian focus on the education of youth: these are the central elements of the Strenna 2018 theme: "Sir, give me this water. LET US CULTIVATE THE ART OF LISTENING AND ACCOMPANIMENT." The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, during the summer session of the General Council, presented the Strenna's theme and guidelines, which will be made available, as per tradition, towards the new year.
Yokkaichi, Japan - July 2017 - On July 8 and 9, the Salesians Aspirantates of Yokkaichi animated a youth summer camp in the southern district of MIE of the Kyoto Diocese. About 40 children between the ages of 7 and 18 gathered for the two-day program on the theme: "The Lord Is My Light." Salesian aspirants led the various activities, assisted by Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
