Caracas, Venezuela – January 2024 – In Turin, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, has appointed Fr Luis Germán Prato, SDB, General Spiritual Councillor of the Damas Salesianas Association, 16th group of the Salesian Family, for the six-year term from 2024-2030. The Spiritual Councillor of the Association, animates, forms, advises, accompanies the International, National and Local Board. His appointment is proposed by the International Board, having heard the Provincial, and the approval is given by the Rector Major, Father and Centre of Unity of the entire Salesian Family.

Manaus, Brazil – February 2024 – The installation ceremony of Fr Felipe Bauzière as the new Superior of the Salesian Province St Dominic Savio of Brazil-Manaus (BMA) and of the Vice-Provincial Fr Raimundo Marcelo Maciel took place on Monday, 5 February at the St Joseph the Worker Shrine. The celebration was presided over by Fr Gabriel Romero, Councillor for the America South Cone Region, in the presence of the Provincials of Campo Grande, Fr Ricardo Carlos; Porto Alegre, Fr Ademir Ricardo; Belo Horizonte, Fr Natale Vitali; and Fr Thiago Eliomar, representing the Province of São Paulo. Also present were Bishop Edson Damian, bishop emeritus of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, groups of the Salesian Family, young people from the Salesian Youth Movement, Salesians of Don Bosco and Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. In the homily, Fr Romero thanked Fr Jefferson Luis, outgoing Provincial, for his service and Fr Felipe Bauzière for his "yes" to the assignment. Drawing inspiration from the liturgy of the day and the Constitutions, the Regional Councillor highlighted the service of the Provincial: serving the confreres, caring for formation and, above all, humanising the experience of religious life with the ability to welcome, dialogue, value and respect the confrere. Simply put, being a good shepherd by following the example of Jesus Christ.

Labuan Bajo, Indonesia – February 2024 - The population of Gerak stations is greatly helped by the Salesian presence, which has brought profound improvements to the lives of locals. One of these was to offer drinking water to the local population, who previously had to boil it or go and buy it in Labuan Bajo, which is tens of kilometres away. Now, however, the locals can go and pick it up in the Salesian community, where a special filter has been installed.

Anisakan, Myanmar – February 2024 – On the feast day of the Presentation of the Lord, 2 February, 130 religious from the areas of Pyin Oo Lwin and Mandalay gathered at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians in Anisakan to celebrate the “World Day of Consecrated Life”, on the theme: “Pilgrims of hope on the path of peace”. The ceremony began in the morning with Holy Mass celebrated by diocesan priest Fr Peter Sein Hlaing Oo, on behalf of the Archbishop of Mandalay, Archbishop Marco Tin Win. In his homily he encouraged all those present to witness the love and mercy of God to all the people they meet in their mission. The day continued with a series of games and moments of sharing and conviviality.

Lospalos, East Timor – January 2024 – On the day of the Feast of Don Bosco, Wednesday 31 January, the bishop of Baucau, Bishop Leandro Maria Alves, celebrated the solemn Eucharist with the Salesian Family, the young people, the benefactors and all the friends of Don Bosco. 467 people received the Sacrament of Confirmation at St Paul's Parish in Lospalos. In the homily, Bishop Alves praised the figure of Don Bosco and his commitment to welcoming young people and offering them the best education of his time. The celebrations in honour of Don Bosco also took place in other locations in East Timor and, in the days leading up to 31 January, the Salesian Family was involved in sports and awareness-raising activities for environmental care. 

Hong Kong – January 2024 – It is now a decades-long tradition that the House of Salesian Studies in Hong Kong invites the Holy Spirit" Seminary and all students and professors from the College of Theology and Philosophy of the Seminary to participate in the celebration of the Feast of Don Bosco. The joint celebration dates back to the time when the Salesians began sending their young confreres for joint formation with the Diocese of Hong Kong and other religious communities. Also this year, on 31 January, the Feast took place in the presence of Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing, Auxiliary Bishop of Hong Kong and Rector of the Seminary of the Holy Spirit, and of  Salesian Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-Kiun, who also presented his recent publication "Reflection on Lent". Several recreational activities were organised and those present had the opportunity to participate in the Vespers, chaired by Fr Domingos Leong, who will be CIN Provincial for the next six years. In addition, the staff working in the Youth Ministry and Social Communication Offices were also invited to the celebration. Their presence and their service made the entire event more joyful.
