Lubumbashi, DR Congo – February 2024 – The first Salesian University in Africa, the Don Bosco University of Lubumbashi, in its first academic year, celebrated the feast in honour of St John Bosco, its patron saint, on Saturday, 3 February. The students of the four faculties (Computer Science; Financial Management and Engineering; Human and Social Sciences; and Theology) and their professors from the Theologicum Saint François de Sales all gathered together, and participated communally in the Mass celebrated by Fr Guillermo Basañes, Superior of the Province of Central Africa (AFC). In his homily he spoke of the pillars of the University – solidarity, innovation and work – and invited the entire assembly to work on themselves in silence, because he said, "silence is the best laboratory to work on oneself." The celebration was also enriched by the presence of Fr Jean Luc Vande Kerkhove, Rector of the University, Fr Dieudonné Besa, representative of the Salesian Institutions of Higher Education (IUS), Faculty Presidents and several Salesian brothers and priests who work in this environment, as well as other Rectors who came for the occasion. In the second part of the day the entire academic community took part in various sports and recreational activities.
Pordenone, Italy – February 2024 - A huge celerbation for Don Bosco was held on Sunday, 4 February, at the Don Boscore center in Pordenone, which brought together more than 500 people including children, teenagers, families and leaders. After the solemn Mass and lunch, an afternoon of games was held, in a celebration made even more solemn this year due to the 100 years of activity of this Salesian work, founded by Fr Renato Ziggiotti, who later became the 5th Successor of Don Bosco at the head of the Congregation. "Don Bosco said that ‘joy is the most beautiful creature that has come out of the hands of God, after love’. The Don Bosco Centre celebrates its Centenary in 2024 and we are sure that the joy and love sown by so many Salesians and lay people is bearing and will always bear great fruit in this work" said Fr Roberto Cappelletti, SDB, Pastoral Coordinator of the work in Pordenone.
Venezuela – January 2024 - Among joy, hymns, dances, prayer and fellowship, the members of the Salesian Family celebrated the solemnity of St John Bosco in all the works of the Salesian Province of Venezuela (VEN), with young people, children, benefactors and collaborators. Fr Hugo Orozco, Councillor for the Interamerica Region, was also present at the celebrations. After the break due to the work of the General Council in Turin, he resumed his Extraordinary Visitation to the VEN Province that began last November.
Panjim, India – January 2024 – The Salesian Province of India-Panjim (INP) on 13 and 14 January, hosted the 16th Conference of Salesian Cooperators in the South Zone of Goa. In addition to the Salesian Cooperators, the SDB and FMA Provincial Delegates from the Provinces of Panjim, Bangalore, Trichy, Chennai, Mumbai and Hyderabad took part. Fr Clive Telles, INP Provincial, opened the meeting and, in his opening address stressed the importance of Salesian Cooperators within the Salesian Congregation. The event was also attended by Fr Joseph Manipadam, Delegate of the Salesian Family in South Asia, Fr Anisio Mota, Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family, Devasia Kuriakose, World Councillor of the Association of Salesian Cooperators in the South Asia Region and A. Jesuraj, Facilitator of the South Zone. During the meeting, thanks to the valuable contributions from the many personalities who spoke, various issues were addressed, such as the role of the Salesian Cooperators in the salvation of young people together with the Salesians and Don Bosco's dream about the Salesian Cooperators. Participants also had the opportunity to take part in a pilgrimage to the Basilica of St Francis Xavier in Goa. Finally, it was announced that the next conference will be hosted by the Salesian Province of India- Hyderabad.
Moscow, Russia – January 2024 – As is the case each year, the Salesian Orphanage in Moscow, now in its thirtieth year, celebrated the Feast of Don Bosco in the presence of many young people, Salesian Past Pupils and illustrious guests. This year the celebrations were also joined by the Italian Deputy Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Pietro Sferra Carini, and the Consul General of Italy in Moscow, Giovanni Favilli, together with his wife. Those present attended Holy Mass and then attended the show "The Dream of Don Bosco" and the celebration and conviviality that followed.
Krakow, Poland – January 2024 – On the Feast of Don Bosco, the entire community of the Salesian Seminary (WSDTS) in Krakow gathered for solemn morning prayers. A guided tour of Krakow's Kazimierz district followed. In the evening the Salesians, together with their guests and parishioners, gathered at the Church of Mary Help of Christians, at the Seminary, for Holy Mass which was celebrated by Fr Stanislaw Oskwarek, SDB, parish priest of the church of St Stanislaus Kostka in Dębniki. In the late evening everyone went to the dining room for a meal together and then to the auditorium for the Salesian Tombola with many prizes. The organizer of this feast was the St John Bosco postnovitiate community. In addition to the Salesians, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Michaelite Sisters, Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, Salesian Missionary Volunteer "Młodzi Światu", "Ziemia Boga" Group, "Rodzina Boga" Group, Michaelite Seminarians, "Saltrom" and Salesians of Oświęcim also participated.
