Tarnowskie Góry, Poland – February 2024 - "Lovers of Jesus Christ – devoted to young people", this was the motto with which the Provincial Chapter of the Salesians of the Province of Poland-Wrocław (PLO) began on Monday, 5 February. 46 Salesians from all communities arrived a The Provincial Chapter is a meeting that seeks to answer urgent questions about the identity of every Salesian living in the modern world, among confreres, in the community – said the PLO Provincial Fr Bartłomiej Polański, SDB, and President of the Chapter, in his introductory conference on the prophetic gaze on the future of the Salesian Congregation. During the meetings in seven minor commissions, the Delegates of the individual religious houses discussed important issues related to Salesian life, and subsequently, in a plenary meeting, they summarised and collected the most important conclusions and indications for the development of the charism. Fr Paweł Druszcz, moderator of the Provincial Chapter, and the moderators of the commissions helped to make the event a time of deep reflection, prayer and decision regarding further activities and directions of development for the Salesians of the Province of Wrocław. One of the days of the Provincial Chapter was spent together with the laity who collaborate daily in the Salesian mission, and it was stressed by the Salesians that without them the Salesian charism would be incomplete. The Chapter ended on 10 February with the Eucharist and the closing ceremony presided over by Fr Polański.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – February 2024 – In the evening of Saturday, 10 February 2024, in San Juan Bosco Parish Santo Domingo, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, Rector Major of the Salesians of Don Bosco, presided over the Eucharistic celebration during which over 150 Salesian Cooperators renewed their promises. The celebration, which was attended by numerous members of the Salesian Family, was organised by the National Council of Salesian Cooperators of the Dominican Republic, and was broadcast live on the YouTube channel.
Shillong, India – February 2024 – The annual meeting of School Principals in Shillong, which took place from 5 to 7 February at the Don Bosco school in Agartala, involving 40 participants from Salesian schools in the Indian states of Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Silchar, recently concluded. The event was also attended by the Superior of the Province of India-Shillong, Fr Paul O. Lyngkot, the appointed Provincial and current Vice-Provincial, Fr John Zosiama, the Provincial Economer, Fr James Thyrniang, other members of the Council and two Sisters of the Visitation of Don Bosco (VSDB) from the small town of Bishramganj. The meeting opened with an address by Fr Babu Stephen, Head of Education and Culture in Shillong Province, who welcomed all the participants and thanked them for their presence. In the following days, thanks to a long and well-developed series of talks and sessions, there was discussion of the difficulties that today's young people face and how to make them better able to manage these challenges. Much room was then dedicated to accounting and the need for proper documentation. Of great interest was the session led by Fr Michael Makri, Director of the Don Bosco Media Network, focused on social media, artificial intelligence and the use of ChatGPT in schools. The importance of celebrating Salesian Mission Day in all schools and parishes, every 11th of the month, and of disseminating the missionary animation bulletin "Cagliero11" was also stressed. The event then ended on the afternoon of 7 February, with a thank you to the Agartala community for hosting this event and contributing to its great success.
Kinshasa, DR Congo – February 2024 – The Salesian Mary Help of Christians community in Masina concluded a week in honour of St John Bosco this Sunday, 4 February. During this week, several activities were organised by the Youth Ministry team of this community. The theme of the week is "With Don Bosco, let's dream big". The final day began with a Eucharistic celebration at the parish of Mary Help of Christians, presided over by Fr Didier Katumbwe, Rector of the community. After the Eucharistic celebration, the young people found themselves in the "place of joy" where a stage had been set up, to carry out numerous cultural activities. All youth groups and movements were present at the event. In addition to cultural activities, the day was also divided into sporting events that saw several teams from the oratory and youth centre compete. The day ended with the traditional Salesian "goodnight" by Fr Jacques Isha, local coordinator of youth ministry.
Spain – February 2024 - Thousands of people participated in the various races organised for different charitable causes in various Salesian houses on the occasion of the liturgical celebration of Don Bosco. There are numerous Spanish Salesian presences that, throughout the month of January and part of February, indicate foot races, encouraging educative and pastoral communities to run for different causes in favor of social solidarity. The Cross Popular Don Bosco in Puebla de la Calzada held on 14 January was one of the first to start, now in its 21st edition. The Salesians of Sarrià organised the "Don Bosco Run" on 28 January to support the young people of the neighbourhood, while on 30 January the Salesians of Carmona held the "Don Bosco Run". On 3 February, the 9th edition of the popular charity race in favour of the "Bosco Global" NGO and the FISAT Foundation took place in Alicante; on the same day the Salesians of Huelva organised their race around the Salesian compond. On 4 February, the now traditional race took place in Mérida, in which over 800 runners and 409 families participated, in favour of the Murialdo Project; in Jerez de la Frontera, the 10th edition of the popular race in favour of the homeless; in the Cross Don Bosco of Carabanchel, one of the most popular now in its 55th edition, 2,300 runners participated. Salamanca with over 800 participants also organised the 29th edition of the Don Bosco People's Race on 4 February and the 25th edition of the Don Bosco People's Race was organised in Valladolid with over 1,700 participants.
Naples, Italy – January 2024 - On the day of the Feast of Don Bosco, the courtyards of the Salesian Don Bosco Institute in Naples were filled with more than 600 children and 100 educators from all local schools and day centres in Naples to experience the festival event in memory of Don Bosco entitled: "GiòNa" – Giovanni Bosco and Naples, now in its fifth edition. All the children and young people present were able to devote an entire afternoon to games focused on respecting the rules, because there can be no education without legality. A fanfare by the Arma dei Carabinieri welcomed the youngsters with music, creating a festive atmosphere. During the afternoon, participants were involved in a series of fair games, all focused on the theme of legality and compliance with the rules. These allowed everyone to have fun and at the same time, reflect on the main theme, through engaging playful dynamics, collaborating in teams and experiencing the games with mutual support. Following, after the awards of the games in the theater, the councillor for social policies of the Municipality of Naples, Luca Trapanese, the president of the III municipality, Fabio Greco and the Superior of the Southern Salesian Province, Fr Gianpaolo Roma, stressed the importance of the presence and networking of the different educational and day centres, fundamental resources for the young people in the area, thanking educators and formators for all the passion and dedication in their daily service.
