(ANS – Rome) – The Provincial who receives a new missionary in his Province has the obligation to ensure that he has formal language course of at least six months, which can be extended if the new missionary needs it. Today’s youth generally speak a foreign language, besides their national language. Thus, as pastor-educator of the young, bilingualism is a reality every Salesian in every context is challenged to face.
(ANS - Rome) - After a process of discernment and reflection carried out by the central team of the Salesian School in America (ESA), by the General Councilors for Youth Ministry (FMA and SDB), respectively, Sr. Runita Borja and Fr Miguel Angel García Morcuende, and after having collected the experiences and viewpoints of the four regions into which ESA is divided (CIB-CIS-BRASIL; CIMAC-Mesoamerica; CICSAL and SEPSUR-School; CINAB-ANDINA), the phase of drafting the ESA “Charter of Identity” has come to its conclusion. This important document is now being shared and published in each of the regional meetings taking place during this 2021.

RMG – ESA Central Commission: job evaluation and programming in support of Global Pact for Education
(ANS - Rome) - On Thursday 1 July, a new meeting of the Central Commission of the Salesian School in America (ESA, in Spanish) took place digitally, made up of representatives of the four regions that form the Network of Schools and Vocational Training Centers of the Provinces of the Salesians (SDB) and of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) on the American continent.
(ANS - Rome) – The Salesian Social Communication delegates of the Central & North European region met online yesterday, to plan for their region and take stock of the situation and the challenges they face in the communication mission. The meeting was convened by Fr. Gildásio Mendez, Councillor for Social Communication, together with Fr. Roman Jachimowicz, Regional Councillor for Central & North Europe in the presence of a good number of social communication delegates of the region, and the presence of the other members of the dicastery, namely Fr. Ricardo Campoli and Fr. Harris Pakkam. The delegates from France, Great Britain, Malta, Germany, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Belgium were also present for the meeting.
(ANS - Rome) - The "Small Team" of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) of Europe and the Middle East has returned to meet in person, in Rome, after months marked by the pandemic, during which only monthly online meetings were possible. The team met from 24 to 29 June to continue working and coordinating SYM's future.

RMG – Don Bosco: “The Fascinating Saint”
(ANS - Rome) - Don Bosco is perhaps the most amazing and fascinating saint, history has ever produced. The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

Spain – 33rd Edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature: Here Are the Winners
(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
