Today, June 23, 2017, a decision was reached in the criminal phase of the “Gerini Case.” Although the Public Prosecutor had requested a judgment against the three whom we had accused of fraud, the Judge issued his decision: acquittal because there did not exist any substance to the accusation of fraud. The civil process will continue while we await the decision regarding the ownership of the General House.
(ANS – Rome) – On 20 June 2017, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his council, appointed Fr William Matthews as the 11th Provincial of Australia-Pacific for the period of 6 years (2018-2023).
(ANS - Rome) - With the consent of the General Council, the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, appointed Fr Carlo Andrés Lira Airola as Provincial of the "San Gabriele Arcangelo" Province of Chile, who will begin this new assignment on 27 January, 2018.
(ANS - Rome) – Fr Thomas Pallithanam, Indian Salesian of the Hyderabad Province, shall be the next representative of the Rector Major and the General Council at the United Nations (UN). He will be under the responsibility and accompaniment of the Councilor for Youth Pastoral in collaboration with the General Council for Missions and with the Economer General.
(ANS - Rome) – The entire issue, No. 68 (January-June 2017) of "Ricerche Storiche Salesiane” (Salesian Historical Research), the bimonthly magazine published by the Salesian Historical Institute (ISS), is devoted to a Salesian of the first missionary expedition: Fr Giuseppe Fagnano, SDB.
(ANS - Rome) - In the proceedings of the General Council's Plenary Session, the Rector Major, Don Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council, appointed two Provincials of the Vice Provinces of the Africa-Madagascar region: Fr Alphonse Owoudou, for Equatorial Tropical Africa (ATE), and Fr Joy Sebastian Thekumcherikunnel for South Africa (AFM).

(ANS – Shillong) – The Youth of St John Paul II, Shillong Province, celebrated the Feast Day of St. John Bosco with the Grand Finale of “Ka Sur Kynud, Season 3.” Organised by Don Bosco Media Network Television, the Social Communication Department of the Province, at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Laitumkhrah, Shillong, this two-month-long singing competition, which imitates the global singing competition The Voice, concluded on 31 January 2025, coinciding with the Solemnity of St John Bosco.

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
