And why create a World Consultation Body (Consulta) on Social Communication? Fr Filiberto González, General Councilor for Social Communications, explains: "What kind of Salesian communicators do young people need in the digital world? Today more than ever we must reflect on various aspects of the communication world that touch our being Salesian at the service of young people."
(ANS - Rome) - The World Conference of those responsible for the Salesian Missionary Offices, held in Rome last month, has indicated the roadmap for the future path of these organisms. For the concrete support of the Salesian mission in the world, the Missionary Offices are called to act along four lines: greater subsidiarity, solidarity, efficacy and transparency.
(ANS - Rome) - After a January truly full of events – what with the Days of Spirituality of the Salesian Family in Turin-Valdocco, the World Youth Day and the Feast of Don Bosco celebrated in Panama - the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, has scheduled several animated visits for February in the Central and Northern Europe region. The first stage will be the "Saint Patrick" Province of Ireland, which this year is committed to celebrating its 100 years since the arrival of the first Salesian missionaries on the island.

(ANS - Rome) - On Monday 4 February the Rector Major, Fr Angel Fernandez Artime, officially decreed the entrance of the "Instituto Religioso das Irmàs Medianeiras da Paz" (Religious Institute of the Mediators of Peace - IRIMEP) into the Salesian Family, thus becoming the latter's 32nd recognized group.
(ANS - Rome) - On the occasion of the Feast of Don Bosco the Dossier of the General Postulation of the Causes of Saints of the Salesian Family has been updated, presenting the situation of the Causes of Beatification and Canonization in 2018. "At this moment," explains Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, SDB, Postulator General, "Postulation accompanies 50 Causes concerning 168 between Saints, Blessed, Venerable, Servants of God. There are also 5 other causes entrusted to our Postulation: the Venerable Casimiro Barello, Camille Costa de Beauregard and Jan Tyranowski, the Servants of God Augusto Bertazzoni and Felice Canelli."

The humble work which he began for the welfare of his poor and abandoned boys in Italy has produced astonishing results, and today there are nearly 14000 Salesians working in 138 countries, and there are more than 200,000 members belonging to the 32 groups of the worldwide Salesian Family sharing the charism of Don Bosco and reaching out to the needy young people.

(ANS – Madrid) – The 33rd edition of the Edebé Prize for Children's and Young Adult Literature has been awarded to Beatriz Giménez de Ory (Madrid, 1972) for her novel Tres niños tristes y medio unicornio (Three Sad Children and Half a Unicorn) and David Lozano (Zaragoza, 1974) for his novel La cacería (The Hunt).

United States – CATHOLIC WORLD DAY OF THE SICK: Salesian Missions highlights medical programs for people in need around the globe
(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins Catholic organizations around the globe in honoring the Catholic World Day of the Sick. Every year on Feb. 11, the Pope marks the day with a special message calling for spiritual and physical closeness to all those who are ill. Saint John Paul II instituted the day “to encourage the people of God, Catholic health institutions and civil society to be increasingly attentive to the sick and to those who care for them.”
