Rome, Italy - March 2023 - On Thursday, March 23, the inauguration of the new welding workshop was held within the Salesian Work "Borgo Ragazzi Don Bosco" Vocational Training Center, part of the network of the National Center of Salesian Works - Vocational Training and Updating (CNOS-FAP) - Lazio. The workshop was built thanks to the contribution of the "Johnson & Johnson Foundation" and with the collaboration of the Italian Institute of Welding (IIS). The facility, a flagship of the center's industrial mechanics sector, was created with the hope of becoming over time a point of reference for the training of young people and professionals in the sector. The event took on greater importance since it was also the occasion to open the 75th year celebrations of the Salesian Home of the "Borgo Ragazzi Don Bosco," founded in 1948. Also speaking during the inauguration were Fr. Daniele Merlini, SDB, Director of the Salesian Home, who shared his reflections on Providence with the community; and Fr. Stefano Aspettati, SDB, Superior of the Salesian Circumscription of Central Italy (ICC), who emphasized the great work that Don Bosco did for young people, also highlighting the many difficulties he had to face. For his part, Fabrizio Tosti, National Director of Formation - CNOS FAP Federation - SALESIANS, affirmed that true formative success consists in the acquisition of skills and abilities that allow one to face life in a conscious and serene way. Also speaking were Silvia De Dominicis, President of the "Johnson & Johnson Foundation"; Giancarlo Canale, from the IIS; and Mauro Caliste, President of the V Municipality.
Rome, Italy - March 2023 - On Saturday, March 25, the young priests in the quinquennium phase belonging to the communities of the Vice-Province of the Salesian Pontifical University gathered, warmly welcomed by the Salesian Theologians Community "Blessed Zeffirino Namuncurá," in Via della Bufalotta, for an intense morning of formation and sharing. The reflections were led by Ms. Antonia Salzano Acutis, mother of Blessed Carlo Acutis, who emphasized her son's relationship with the Eucharist and with the figure of the priest, inspiring an ever more intense Eucharistic devotion made up of assiduous prayer and consistency of life. The second moment, led by Fr. Francesco Marcoccio, Vicar of the Salesian Circumscription Central Italy (ICC), went over a reflection on the Eucharist as the culmination and source of Christian and Salesian life, with special mention of priestly ministry, through a comparison with the Magisterium, the writings of St. Francis de Sales, the priestly experience of Don Bosco, to the more current experience of the Servant of God and Salesian mystic Cooperator Vera Grita, proponent of the work of Living Tabernacles. "We are grateful for this focus on formation addressed to the priests of the quinquennium and to the UPS Vice-Province that allowed it, thanks to the presence and will of the Superior of the Vice-Province Fr. Arokiam Kanaga and his Vicar Fr. Giuseppe Ruta," said Fr. Tiziano Conti. The greeting of Director Fr Silvio Roggia, the fraternal and welcoming atmosphere of the Salesians of the theologate community, and the moments of community agape completed the unforgettable rendering of this formative moment.
(ANS - Venice) - Messages of hope for all humanity, sent on a mission into orbit in the immensity of space. And these messages are enclosed in immensely small objects: a nano-library sent by a nano-satellite. On the third anniversary of the Statio Orbis - 27 March 2020, when the Pope implored an end to the pandemic with his solitary prayer in a rain-swept St. Peter's Square - the 'Spei Satelles' space mission was born, from an idea of Monsignor Lucio Ruiz, secretary of the Dicastery for Communication, in collaboration with the Italian Space Agency, the Turin Polytechnic, the Institute of Photonics and Nanotechnology of the National Research Center and the Turin Digital Apostolate. In this historic event, the mission's official logo is signed by IUSVE, and in particular by student Marica Padoan whose project met with the approval of the Spei Satelles working group and who will therefore accompany the message of hope into orbit.
(ANS - Turin) - Gianni Minà, a journalist from Turin, passed away yesterday, 27 March 2023. From a young age, he lived in Salesian circles as an oratorian and student. After his beginnings working at Tuttosport, he grew professionally to become a true master of sports journalism in Italy, and beyond. A great interviewer and observer, Minà always conceived sport as a training ground for encounters and social growth. He leaves a void. With him are remembered the many journalists who passed through Salesian schools and still work in the world of the press and media. To the family of Gianni Minà goes the affectionate and sympathetic memory of the entire Salesian Family.
(ANS - Rome) - The terrible reality of the war, with violence, bombings and thousands of people fleeing; but also the hidden and silent miracles that took place for so many simple people, the constant presence of Mary Help of Christians, and the zeal of a shepherd for his suffering flock. All this was concentrated in the "good night" thought that a few days ago Bishop Maksym Ryabukha, SDB, auxiliary bishop of the Donetsk Exarchate, offered to the Salesians at Salesian Headquarters in Rome.
(ANS - Rome) - "A young person desires the Eucharist but, normally, does not know it. The Eucharistic Celebration is the most precious thing Salesians can offer young people, yet educational mediation often turns out to be neutral with respect to Jesus Eucharist, whom Don Bosco placed, with Mary, as the pillar of salvation. With Fr. Roberto Carelli we will try to reflect on the logical steps that are required by a Christian educational path so that young people not only know that Jesus is important, but recognize their desire to be in Communion with Him." This is the outline of the fifth meeting of the cycle "Which Salesians for Today's Youth?"
