(ANS – Ivato) – Fr Erminio de Santis, a Salesian originally from Italy, has been active for 40 years in the Salesian missions in Madagascar. In these four decades he has totally spent all efforts on young Malagasy, serving in the Mary Immaculate Vice-Province of Madagascar (MDG) in different ways and with a great variety of assignments – he has also been Economer, Delegate for Social Communication, Superior and Councillor. For 20 years he has worked at the Notre Dame de Clairvaux centre in Ivato which is also the first centre where he arrived 40 years ago, and he works hard in the direct accompaniment of the youngsters. Here is his testimony about these first months of 2024 lived in his mission: a mission full of challenges, but which he always faces with great zeal and trust in Providence.
(ANS – Rome) –In a world of information and communication in perpetual and ongoing evolution, professional development is the duty of every professional; this also applies in the Salesian Family. The Communication Conference 2024 "Shaping Tomorrow", to be held from 1 to 7 August 2024 at the facilities of the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) in Rome, will also deal with this. And in the run-up to this appointment, today we address precisely the topic of the formation of communication professionals.
(ANS - Quito) - On 22nd and 23rd February, the "chroniclers" (those involved in writing the chronicles of the houses) of the Salesian presences of the "Sacred Heart of Jesus" Province of Ecuador (ECU), gathered for a training session. The two-day meet was aimed at highlighting the importance of recording, preserving and disseminating historical memories, through the writing of chronicles and the safeguarding of heritage of this rich archive to carry forward the Salesian identity even through the flow of time.
(ANS – Rome) – Education, culture, charity, commitment to fighting religious illiteracy: St John Bosco Parish in Rome, long entrusted to the Salesians, throbs daily with life, faith and social commitment. Led by Fr Roberto Colameo, it is among the largest communities in Rome by number of inhabitants, just under 60,000. "It is also the only case in Rome, if not in Italy, in which the parish gave its name to the neighbourhood" explains Fr Roberto. "Although it has officially changed to the Tuscolano suburb, people continue to call it the ‘Don Bosco neighbourhood’".
(ANS – Vatican City) – Pope Francis releases his prayer intention for March, asking for prayers for the martyrs of our day, and recalling a story he was told by a widowed Muslim man who recounted the martyrdom of his Christian wife as she defied terrorists. In the video, in which the Pope tells the poignant story of a woman martyr in our times, there is also a reference to Akash Bashir, a former pupil of Don Bosco and the first Servant of God in the history of the Church in Pakistan.
