Ennerdale, South Africa - May 2017 - On 7 May, the young people of the Salesian Youth Movement in Johannesburg attended a Salesian Family Vocations Day. Participants reflected on the theme of Pope Francis's Message for the Day of Prayer for Vocations driven by a missionary spirit. The day was led by Salesian Brother Clarence Watts, assisted by several Salesians, members of the Salesian Family and lay people.
São Paulo, Brazil - May 2017 - On 9 May, the Salesian College of Santa Teresinha celebrated the 80th anniversary of its foundation. The day began with the "Good Morning" thought from Fr. Edson Donizeti Castilho, Superior of the São Paulo Province (BSP). Various activities followed, including the composition of the Salesian logo by the pupils with balloons in hand. The Santa Teresinha College was founded in 1937 and currently hosts 2,600 students.
Cracow, Poland - May 2017 - From 5 to 7 May, about 850 children and young people from all Salesian Houses of the Kraków Province (PLS), including Ukraine, participated in Krakow at the 27th "Savionalia", the yearly celebration to commemorate St Domenico Savio. This year’s theme was "Go and preach with Don Bosco". Young people went to different places in the city to preach by word and example, and participated in various events. As is traditional, 24 young departing missionaries received the cross during the Eucharist presided over by Fr. Adam Parszywka, Provincial PLS.
Cuautitlan, Mexico - May 2017 - On 7 May, in the cathedral of Cuautitlán, the Mexican diocese where St Juan Diego, the visionary of the Virgin of Guadalupe, was born, the solemn opening took place of the Diocesan Inquiry for the cause of beatification and canonization of Sr. Antonieta Böhm, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians (FMA). The Bishop of the Diocese, Bishop Guillermo Ortiz Mondragón, presided. More than 150 FMAs were present, led by their Provincial, Sr. Guadalupe Torres, several members of the Salesian Family, the Provincial of Mexico-Mexico, Fr Gabino Hernández Paleta, and many devotees of the Servant of God. It was a great event of the Church. During the Eucharistic celebration, members of the tribunal and those of the Historical Commission were sworn in, as well as the Postulator General, Fr Pierluigi Cameroni, SDB, and the Vice-Postulator, Sr. Guadalupe Chávez, FMA. The ceremony was followed by a musical based on the life of Sr Böhm performed by students of the Laura Vicuña Educational Centre in Coacalco.
