Rome, Italy - November 2017 - On 20 November, on the 28th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a key document in the protection and promotion of children's rights, the event "Project on the participation of the Council of Europe, coordinated by UNICEF Italy and the Interministerial Committee for Human Rights (CIDU), took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The International Volunteers for Development (VIS) strongly reaffirmed the need for a common commitment to ensure protection and security for all children and young people living in emergency locations, and emphasized the need for youth participation as an indispensable element in the fight against violations of the rights of minors.
Maputsoe, Lesotho - November 2017 – The Youth Ministry team of the South African Vice Province (AFM) organized its fourth meeting of reflection on the formation of lay people with lay collaborators of the oratories, schools and parishes of Maputsoe, Lesotho. The team had previously held similar meetings in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Swaziland. The aim is to raise awareness among lay people about the importance of lifelong learning for a better understanding of the charism and the Salesian spirit.
Saint-Jean-de-Sixt, France - November 2017 – Since 2008, the Federation of Past Pupils of Don Bosco of France has been carrying out a project whereby they offer families and young people moments of relaxation, play, sharing, reflections and prayers in one of the holiday villages of the Don Bosco Network Association. In the latest edition, between the end of October and the beginning of November, there were 210 participants housed in the village of Forgeassoud to discuss a number of issues and problems of current society, listen to testimonies, including those of two Syrian migrants staying at the Don Bosco house in Paris.
Luanda, Angola - November 2017 - On November 20, Rector Major Fr Ángel Fernández Artime visited the Dom Bosco House of Palanca where he met with the Salesians of all the local communities, aspirants, postnovatiates and prenovitiates, thus learning firsthand about the Salesian mission in Angola. The Rector Major presented his guidelines and recommendations to help the mission in Angola grow.
Calcutta, India - November 2017 – On 11 November, students of the "Salesian College Sonada" University participated in a free medical care campaign for the poor. 264 people, including the elderly and the young, were able to obtain free medical check ups in three categories: general, gynecology and ophthalmic examination. The activity was organized by the Department of Commerce and the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the Salesian College Sonada, in collaboration with the “Harimaya Chettri Memorial Welfare Organization Siliguri.”
San Ignacio, El Salvador - November 2017 - From 10 to 12 November, 300 young people from the Salesian Youth Movement of El Salvador gathered to give birth to Campo Bosco 2017; its theme: "Your challenge is the world and the reward is Paradise."
