Villa México, Bolivia - April 2024 - On 6 April in the Don Bosco Church, Salesian Arnold Arispe was ordained a priest through the laying on of hands and the consecratory prayer of Rt. Rev. Jesús Juárez Párraga, SDB, Archbishop Emeritus of Sucre. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Fr. Líder Justiniano, the Superior of the Salesian Province of Bolivia (BOL), as well as the parents, family members, and friends of the newly ordained priest.
Aparecida, Brazil - April 2024 - From 2 to 5 April, the Convention Centre of the 'Rainha do Brasil' Hotel hosted the Training Day for Early Childhood Education Pedagogical Coordinators. Promoted by Salesian Network Brazil (RSB), in collaboration with its publisher Edebê. The main objective of the event was to qualify the Salesian schools' Pedagogical Coordinators to be training agents for educators, accompanying them in a systematic way to make their work more effective with the "GIROLHAR" Collection, didactic material from Edebê Publisher for early childhood education.
Kolkata, India – April 2024 – The Provincial Chapter of St John Bosco Province of Calcutta (INC) began on 8 April, on the theme: "PASSIONATE ABOUT JESUS CHRIST, DEDICATED TO YOUNG PEOPLE. Living our Salesian vocation faithfully and prophetically.“ The Chapter began with a day of recollection led by Fr James Mathew, in the Nitika chapel. Archbishop Thomas D’Souza, archbishop of Calcutta, presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration and invited the Salesians to "be good listeners, to focus on ongoing formation and to update Salesian pedagogy in the digital world." Fr Ignatius Malasam Tisu from Bangladesh, read articles 170-171 of the Constitutions underlining the meaning and importance of the Provincial Chapter. During the Chapter, messages from Fr Biju Michael, Councillor for the South Asia Region, were read. The Archbishop then returned to address Chapter members, thanking the Salesians for the pastoral help extended to the Dioceses of West Bengal, Sikkim, Nepal and Bangladesh and for the appreciation of young people. Finally, Fr George Chempakathinal, the Moderator, welcomed those present and declared the Provincial Chapter open.
Tampa, United States – April 2024 – The Provincial Chapter of the Salesians in the Eastern United States and Canada took place during Easter Week at the Mary Help of Christians Centre in Tampa, Florida. Thirty-five members of the SUE Province, from both the United States and Canada, took part in the Chapter. Bishop Robert Nugent Lynch, bishop emeritus of St Petersburg (Florida), led the retreat and presided at Mass on the opening day of the Chapter. The next day, the FMA and the Salesian Cooperators were invited to take part in the discussions regarding the laity working alongside the Salesians. Province Day was celebrated at the end of the Chapter, which began with Mass and continued with moments of recollection and fraternity. Finally, as a sign of gratitude, Fr Dominic Tran, Superior of the Salesian Province of the Eastern United States and Canada (SUE), rewarded Mrs Mary Sverko for her dedication to Mary Help Tampa and to the Salesian mission. Mrs Sverko not only takes care of rentals at the place, but manages the St Philip residence at Mary Help Tampa, for elderly Salesians.
Turin, Italy - April 2024 - The five gatherings of "Into the Heart of the World" held between 2023 and 2024 led 29 individuals to commit to embarking on a mission experience in August 2024. These participants included university students, young professionals, and Animators of Salesian Presences. Throughout these meetings, various topics were presented and discussed, spanning from economics and service to interculturality, with a focus on Salesian missionary spirituality. Motivated by a shared desire to choose a world to live in, that rejects the prevailing evils, the young men and women who participated in the course, facilitated by the Missionary Animation Team, will journey to Ngozi, Burundi; Nairobi, Kenya; Vilnius and Telsiai, Lithuania; and Bo, Sierra Leone. On April 7th, at the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Valdocco, the Missionary Mandate for their upcoming departures was bestowed during a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. Leonardo Mancini, the ICP Provincial.
Genzano di Roma, Italy - April 2024 - The 6th Provincial Chapter of the Salesian Vice Province of Central Italy (ICC), held at Casa Versiglia in Genzano di Roma from April 1st to 6th, 2024, concluded with a Eucharistic celebration led by its Superior Fr. Stefano Aspettati. It was primarily an encounter of fraternity, reaffirming the familial bonds among participants throughout each day: from prayer and the work of the Commissions to shared meals, leisure time, and discussions in the Assembly. This gathering fostered open and honest dialogue regarding consecration and mission, involving laypeople in service to youth. Three documents were drafted as reflections and contributions from the ICC Province for the 29th General Chapter, slated for early 2025 in Turin. Ahead of this, the Chapter engaged in discernment before selecting two Salesians, along with substitutes, to represent the Circumscription at the General Chapter: Fr. Roberto Colameo and Fr. Michelangelo Dessì, with Fr. Daniele Merlini and Fr. Emanuele De Maria as substitutes.
