Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – April 2024 – The Salesian mission in Mongolia began in 2001, started by five Salesians, two of whom are still in the country. Last year, Fr Alfred Maravilla, General Councillor for the Missions, made an Extraordinary Visitation to Mongolia, asking the Salesians a crucial question: what will be the future of the Mongolian Delegation? In addition, during the Team Visit to the East Asia-Oceania Region, the Rector Major, Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, stressed the urgency for the Provinces to make decisions on their own future, always giving priority to the option for the most needy. In light of these reflections, and also considering the still tangible consequences of the pandemic, the Salesians of the Delegation of Mongolia met in an Assembly for an overall assessment of what needs to be continued and what needs to be reshaped. The Assembly was held from 8 to 10 April at the Handgait Retreat House, in the presence of all the members of the Delegation and Fr Marcello Baek, representing the South Korean Provincial Council. The purpose of the Assembly was to present the general situation of the mission, so that all Salesians now working in the Delegation of Mongolia are aware of the real situation, as a whole. Subsequently, a second Assembly will be held, in which it will be decided which Apostolates to continue and which to reconsider.

Seoul, South Korea – April 2024 – More than 300 people, belonging to different groups of the Salesian Family, gathered on Saturday 13 April at the Salesian Provincial House in Seoul to celebrate the Day of Spirituality of the Salesian Family. The celebration was led by Fr Joseph Phuoc, Councillor for the East Asia-Oceania Region, who is making an Extraordinary Visitation to the Korean Holy Martyrs Province of South Korea (KOR), on behalf of the Rector Major, in these weeks. The Day opened with a welcome address by KOR Provincial, Fr Timothy Choi Woncheol, who recalled that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Salesian presence in South Korea. Fr Phuoc congratulated them on this achievement and stressed the importance of giving priority to young people and helping them, planting "joy in their hearts and in their lives". Subsequently, those present attended a presentation conference on the Rector Major's Strenna 2024, an in-depth study on the 70th anniversary of the Salesian presence in South Korea and exhibitions and participatory programs prepared by each group of the Salesian Family. After a break, the appointments continued with a talk on the role of the laity and a moment of group work focused on dreams. The Day ended with Mass, presided over by Fr Timothy Choi Woncheol, during which the second anniversary of the death of Fr Robert Falk was commemorated, who gave his all, from the beginning of the Salesian presence in Korea, planting the dream of Don Bosco in the hearts of young people. Finally, in the homily, Fr Joseph Phuoc recalled the Dream at nine years of age and highlighted Don Bosco's love for young people.

Los Angeles, United States – April 2024 – For over two years, the Salesian Family Youth Centre has actively participated in events organised by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. Thanks to these commitments and new connections, a significant collaboration with the Visión y Compromiso Charity was born. This partnership was sealed as part of an event called "Agenda: your health is in your hands", organised by Visión y Compromiso and held at the end of March at the Salesian Family Youth Centre. The initiative served as a platform to bring together representatives of various health institutions, emphasising the importance of collaboration in addressing the health and well-being of society. The event fostered in-depth discussions and exchanges on urgent health issues, such as access to health services, preventive measures and community outreach strategies. The Salesian Family Youth Centre said it was proud to serve as a venue for meetings of such impact, which promote collaboration and innovation in community health initiatives.

Goma, R.D. Congo - 11 April 2024 - Around 50 young people (girls and boys) from the Salesian schools in Shasha who had been displaced to Goma as a result of the war have been welcomed to Don Bosco Ngangi to continue their schooling. Since the beginning of the week, the Salesians of Don Bosco Shasha, led by Fr Kizito Tembo, the Rector, had set up places for accommodation, education, catering and other vital services within the Salesian presence in Ngangi, Goma. Since 11 April, the classrooms have welcomed young people in basic education, particularly those in the last years of primary school and orientation programme, and those in the last years of secondary school in agronomy. All their educators were present and were delighted that their parents agree to entrust their children to the supervision of the Salesians of Don Bosco, who have also been refugees in Goma since the beginning of this year. While waiting for other young people to join the first arrivals, they will continue their schooling in the boarding school set up by the Salesians. They will thus be able to prepare and take part in the national examinations in peace and quiet, which is not easy for these thousands of internally displaced persons currently experiencing great difficulties in the region. As soon as news of the resumption of the support system by Salesians for the young school children of Shasha reached, hundreds of children became the direct beneficiaries of this project "Don Bosco at school with the young internally displaced persons".

Utrail, Bangladesh - April 2024 - 5 April 2024 was a very special day for the Salesians of Don Bosco in Bangladesh for the priestly ordination of Victor Mankhin. He is the first Bangladeshi Salesian to be ordained a priest since the Salesians resumed their mission in 2009 in Utrail, Durgapur, in the Mymensingh diocese. The ordination celebrations began on 4 April with Eucharistic adoration followed by the 'Thokka' ceremony, a cultural event of the Garo tribe celebrating this solemn occasion. Two Salesian Provincials from India, Fr Joseph Pauria (INC) and Fr Januarius Sangma (ING), were present at the event along with other Salesians from India, Bangladesh, priests, other religious and the faithful. On 5th April, the celebrations began with the arrival of the Bishop of Mymensingh Bishop Ponen Paul Kubi, other dignitaries, Christians from various parishes, as well as family members and relatives. The ordination ceremony, with some 2,500 people, was a joyful moment for the Christian community and for the Bangladeshi Salesians, who now number twenty-four. Fr Victor Mankhin celebrated his first Holy Eucharist on 6 April in his village (Bharathpur of Baluchora Parish) in the presence of a large crowd of over a thousand people.
