Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of the Congo – January 2025 – On 5 January, the Salesian Family of the Province of Central Africa (AFC) celebrated the Day of Strenna 2025 by the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr Stefano Martoglio, entitled "Anchored in hope, pilgrims with young people". The event was attended by over 750 people, led by Fr Guillermo Basañes, AFC Provincial and Sister Clarisse Ngoy, FMA Provincial, with the report by Fr Césaire Ilowa. The program was full of activities involving all the Salesian Family Groups.
Cau Bong, Vietnam – January 2025 – On 1 January 2025, the Dominic Savio Community in Cau Bong ran a Spring Fair for children at the Community campus and in the Tan Thinh Parish. The event attracted more than a thousand children from various parishes and shelters, together with more than 250 collaborators including priests, Salesians, religious, lay people who helped to organise and manage the activities. The program began with Mass on the Solemnity of Mary Mother of God, presided over by Fr Barnabas Le An Phong, Superior of the Salesian Province of Vietnam. After Mass, Fr Fr Joseph Doan Hai Dang, Rector of the Dominic Savio Community officially opened the fair. The children had the opportunity to take part in games, challenges and numerous other activities, but also to learn about the missions and spirituality.
Shillong, India – December 2024 – The celebrations for the centenary of the arrival of the Servant of God Constantine Vendrame in North East India have ended in the Salesian Province of Shillong, India. During the final event, which took place on 15 December, a new stage was blessed in the presence of Fr Richard Majaw, from the Archdiocese of Shillong. He was then the main celebrant for the Mass concelebrated by numerous religious. The celebration was also enriched by the performance of the Evangelist Choir. During the day, Fr Barnes Mawrie's new book was presented, entitled "The Missionary Legacy of Fr. Constantine Vendrame.” The celebrations were also enhanced by the "Pax in Terra" concert, which aimed to pray for peace in the world involving the musical performance of various groups and institutions, including the young Presbyterians of Mawpdang. The programme ended with the Evangelist Choir singing several Christmas carols to wish everyone a joyous festive season. Fr Festus Shadap finally officially concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
Malta – December 2024 - On International Volunteer Day, Malta celebrated its 13th national volunteer award ceremony, an event that highlights the extraordinary contributions of individuals and organisations that shape a better society through their selfless service. This year, Dylan Farrugia, co-founder and president of the Foundation, and past pupil of Savio College (Malta), received the prestigious Young Volunteer Award 2024. The Foundation expressed immense pride in Dylan Farrugia's achievement, recognising his tireless efforts to support the Maltese honey bee and protect Malta's unique endemic biodiversity. Speaking at the awards ceremony, Dylan Farrugia urged stronger environmental action and inspired others to embrace the spirit of volunteering. He stressed the importance of promoting authentic dialogue and engaging in altruistic actions to make a significant impact in communities around the world.
Mbiti, Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo – January 2025 - Salesians in their quinquennium from the Mary Help of Christians Africa Congo-Congo (ACC) Vice-Province participated in a formation meeting in Mbiti at the Scheutistine Sisters (ICM) novitiate from 2 to 4 January 2025. The ten young Salesian priests from the Salesian communities of Pointe-Noire, Brazzaville, Kinshasa and Tshikapa participated in the refresher session and for exchange of experiences outside their respective apostolic environments. The conferences covered topics such as synodality, mission, hope and integral ecology, led by Fr Sylvain Woto, ACC Vice-Provincial and in charge of formation, and Fr Titus Mwamba, who accompanies this stage of ongoing formation.
Manimala, India – December 2024 - On 28 December 2024, Salesian Jude Jojy received the sacrament of orders according to the Syro-Malabar rite in the Holy Magy Forane parish of Manimala, Kerala, India. This priestly ordination is the response to a call from the Lord begun at the age of 15, inspired by the charism of Don Bosco. From his aspirantate in 2011 in Kerala, through the studies of Philosophy and Commerce, the new priest Jude Jojy showed an unshakable vocation towards religious life. In 2018, motivated by the love of Jesus and the desire to serve young people, he left his home Province of Bangalore, India (INK) to join the Salesian Province of the Antilles (ANT). His experience as a practical trainee in the Dominican Republic and his theological studies in Mexico strengthened his Salesian commitment.
