Bologna, Italy – May 2024 – On Sunday, 5 May 650 teenagers and young adults filled Piazza Lucio Dalla in Bologna with enthusiasm and joy, with the 2024 Festival of the Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) with young people from Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Switzerland and San Marino. From the previous day, teenagers from the Leaders Formation School were at the Our Lady of San Luca institute where, led by a large group of formators they began the work of preparation for the Festival. At dawn on Sunday morning, with vans, minibuses and trolleys all loaded, the entertainers moved to Piazza Lucio Dalla to begin preparations for the Festival. The groups that came for this event were welcome with music and dances, making them immediately enter the atmosphere. During the morning, the young people were involved in four workshops on music, theatre, dance and street art, coordinated by professionals. These workshops were enriched by the two testimonies by Fr Gianmarco Pernice, a Salesian and street artist by passion, and Simone Lupo, a young man from Arese whose life was changed by the Salesian oratory. The centre of the event was the Mass celebrated by Fr José Miguel Nunez, Extraordinary Visitor to the Lombardy-Emilian Province, Italy (ILE) on behalf of the Rector Major of the Salesians, who urged young people not to be afraid and to rediscover "the Salesian sacrament of presence". The afternoon was animated by sports tournaments in the fields set up in the surrounding park, and by giant games built by the leaders. The show, the result of the work of the morning workshops, attracted numerous passers-by and concluded the event.

Reggio Calabria, Italy – April 2024 - The 28th Provincial Chapter of the Southern Salesian Blessed Michael Rua Province Italy  (IME) has opened in the Don Bosco church at Bova Marina. A valuable time in which a representation of Salesians and lay people, engaged in the 28 Salesian Educative and Pastoral Communities, are working together with Provincial Fr Gianpaolo Roma, on the three core areas of the 29th General Chapter (GC29) and on reshaping the Southern Province. After the celebration, at which the Provincial presided, everyone moved to the Altalia Club Village in Brancaleone to officially start the work of the Chapter. These are busy days, characterised by discussion of various topics, with particular attention to the contributions of young people from the Salesian Youth Movement and the Salesian Family. The active inclusion of the laity has made the conversation even richer and more meaningful, confirming the value of shared responsibility in the life of the IME Province and the Congregation. In the following days, the participants addressed a series of crucial issues, guided by the desire to give concrete form to Don Bosco's charism in the current context. The Provincial's detailed report on the status of the Province provided a comprehensive overview of the activities and challenges faced, paving the way for an in-depth and constructive discussion. The presentation of the core areas of GC29 also offered valuable insights to guide the future work of the Congregation. The last day was dedicated to the approval of the Provincial Directory on the Economy and the election of the Delegate and Substitute of the IME Province to  GC29, Fr Giuseppe Russo and Fr Tomë Mihaj, respectively.

  • RMG - St. Francis de Sales Communicator: All for Love

(ANS – Rome) - The figure of St. Francis de Sales, chosen by Don Bosco as an example of a communicator, teaches that communication is a matter of the heart. In his expression, "Everything in the Church is love: everything lives in love, for love, and of love," we understand his revolution in the way of communicating, and how communication becomes fruitful when it allows communion and the exchange of one's experiences in a path of accompaniment and collaboration in God's project.
