Naples, Italy - September 2017 - On September 5, the "Mediterranean" community of the City of Naples was inaugurated. Headquartered in the Salesian House "Don Bosco" of Naples, it houses unaccompanied minors. Among those attending the inauguration was Fr Angelo Santorsola, Salesian Provincial of Southern Italy, interviewed by ANS on the theme of the Salesian Mission among immigrants in the South Italy Province.
(ANS - Rome) - A documentary on the life of St John Bosco aired on the Rai Storia channel in August. Produced with material from Teche Rai (Radiotelevisione Italiana), it was based on biographical notes suggested by guests Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, Marco Pizzo and Domenico Agasso.
(ANS - Rome) – As of September 1, the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) has renewed itself and started its activities with a new Office for Communications and Development, an office that now incorporates the services previously offered by the Press Office and the Office for Development and Public Relations. Mr. Massimo Ilardo was appointed the Director of the new Communications and Development Office.
Naples, Italy - September 2017 - On 2 September, during the annual Youth Ministry Conference of the Salesian Province of Southern Italy (IME), there was a change of Provincials from Fr Pasquale Cristiani to Fr Angelo Santorsola, nominated during the General Council's general plenary winter session by the Rector Major of the Salesians, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, with the consent of his Council. The new Provincial took office during the Eucharistic Celebration, presided by Fr Stefano Martoglio, Councilor for the Mediterranean Region, where Fr Angelo Santorsola professed his oath and officially assumed office as Provincial. The following day, the new Provincial addressed Salesians and laity in a first speech wherein he presented several guidelines for the six-year term, introduced the new Council and the new Delegate for Youth Ministry, Fr Domenico Madonna.
Messina, Italy - August 2017 - From August 12 to 22, Salesians of the Italian Provinces soon to celebrate their perpetual profession embarked on a pilgrimage that took them on the footsteps of Pino Puglisi, the Blessed Martyr, and Nino Baglieri, Servant of God, and at the Shrine of Our Lady of Tears in Syracuse. They then were led through spiritual exercises their Novitiate Masters.
Milan, Italy - August 2017 - On August 28, the formal passage between Fr Claudio Cacioli and Fr Giuliano Giacomazzi as Provincial of Lombardy-Emilia (ILE) Province took place. The Salesians gathered in the provincial office in the morning in a spiritual retreat with the Councilor for the Mediterranean Region, Fr. Stefano Martoglio, who presided over the Holy Mass in which Fr. Giacomazzi professed his oath and officially assumed his post. In the afternoon the new Provincial addressed the Salesians in his first speech with guidelines for his six-year term. Also presented, the new Delegate for Youth Ministry, Fr Paolo Caiani, already in charge of Missionary Animation.

Italy – On-Line Course on Integral Ecology 2025: An Initiative of the Alliance for the Care of Our Common Home (Pontifical Universities & Atheneums of Rome)
(ANS – Rome) – 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical letter on the Care for Our Common Home, in which he invited all people of good to “a new dialogue about how we are shaping the future of our planet” (Laudato Si’, 14). However, as Pope Francis recognizes in Laudate Deum, the apostolic exhortation published on 4th October 2023, “our responses have not been adequate” and “the world in which we live is collapsing and may be nearing the breaking point.” (Laudate Deum, 2).
