SPECIAL REPORTS

(ANS – Bacolod) – It is really a challenge for everyone to live among people with different cultures and to learn to adjust to their culture. Yet, if one wants to relate well with people from a different culture, it is of paramount importance that he or she must, first of all, learn and understand their own culture before encountering a new culture. Learning to deal with different traditions, cultures and ways of thinking is a challenge that becomes increasingly more important every day for the Salesian Congregation, too. In the Asia-East region, significant initiatives have already been developed in this regard.

(ANS - Bailleul) - The Salesian Institute of the Immaculate Conception of Bailleul is carrying out a vast project in the current school year to support the initiatives of the solidarity association of "Les clowns de l'espoir" (Clowns of Hope), committed to bringing a smile to sick children. The 780 students of the institute have not only pledged to raise funds, but, as explained by the Dean, Prof. Isabelle Marcant, "the solidarity project would not have made sense if the young people had not been able to give joy."

(ANS - Accra) - Accra, the capital of Ghana, located on the Gulf of Guinea, is a metropolis of 5 million inhabitants. In its metropolitan area, at Ashaiman, the Salesians animate two houses. The presence of the spiritual Sons of Don Bosco in the country then develops through two other communities, namely in the locality of Sunyani, about 400 km north-west of the capital. In both cities, as well as in the new center of Tatale, the Salesians work at the service of children and young people, especially the most in need.

(ANS – Dili) – Since 1984 the Cristal Foundation, officially registered in 1987 and again in 2001, has transformed the life of thousands of Timorese citizens. Started by ten Alumni of Don Bosco in Baucau, with the help of Salesians, it now offers education to 8000 students in East Timor.
