SPECIAL REPORTS

(ANS - Vatican City) - “If I have a sick person in the family and I need to spend on their care, will I not direct all my resources to the health of my family member? I don't want to trivialize, but we are in the moment in which we must understand where to direct resources in a moment of epochal change.” During a press conference held yesterday at the Vatican, Sister Alessandra Smerilli, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians, who teaches political economy at the Salesians' Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences "Auxilium", indicated the priorities to pursue in the post-pandemic era.

(ANS - Nazareth) - The Salesians of the Middle East Province are also present in Nazareth. After its foundation in 1896, and a series of historical vicissitudes, the more recent history of the Nazareth school, which offers education from elementary or primary school to vocational training school featuring specialized courses in carpentry, mechanics and electronics, first begins in 1950. Since then it has followed the various reforms of Israeli education, which in 2002 abolished vocational schools, and led to its transformation into a technological high school.

(ANS - Manaus) - In Brazil, the pandemic is still advancing with great strides: almost 1.5 million infected and 61,884 confirmed victims. Unfortunately, the official data in the second country most severely hit by Covid-19 is not a complete picture of the Brazilian situation.

(ANS - Buenos Aires) - Photographer, cartographer and tireless explorer, the Salesian Fr Alberto De Agostini landed in Punta Arenas, in the Chilean Patagonia, in 1910. He settled in that region and for almost fifty years he explored the southern territories of Chile and Argentina. A staunch defender of Indigenous peoples, he was the first cartographer of that land and left a legacy printed in travel guides, chronicles and impressive photographs.
